I love lore. For me, being immersed in Warcraft makes the game that much more enjoyable, so when I see Blizzard change something, it usually is a big deal to me. I have always been a paladin in games, and with Blizzard allowing the Blood Elfs to be paladins in the expansion, I not only think it is wrong, but goes against what a paladin is in general.

So basically, yes, lore means a lot to me.

Many people can do this, it isn't hard at all.

You need to download the Burning Crusade alpha directly from the WoW site, then download "TBC-Sandbox" and run it, then you're done, you can explore the new areas.

Honestly though, there aren't any mobs, npc, spells, even clothes for that matter, so it gets boring pretty quick.
