Nintendo and Sony won't touch Manhunt 2 with AO rating
Jun 21st 2007 10:22AM (Joystiq)Regardless anyone who is bitching because Sony and Nintendo aren't allowing this on their platforms is ridiculous. Consels are not the same thing as PC's. PC's are a fairly open sourced platform that are the perfect medium to put out whatever you want. PC's aren't all created by one company that has invested large sums of money into creating an image that gets their product into homes all over the world. Because companies like Nintendo and Sony put so much money and effort into creating this image and sales platform they deserve to control what content is allowed on the platform.
As for the argument of "I bought the thing shouldn't I decide what I play on it" I think that that is a load of crap. It would be one thing if you bought it and the company came in a few years later and just deactivated the whole thing and made you pay more to play the same games you already bought on the same platform, but this is different. People need to understand that when they buy a video game consel they are buying a rather unique peice of equipment. You are buying a proprietary platform that can only be used to play the media that the company you bought it from decides to provide. It is fundamentaly different from a DVD player because the general public views the content put forth by the consel as Sony and Nintendo's responsability. These are the facts of the video game industry, and the only real way I see to change them is to get rid of consels altogether. (I am not advocating getting rid of consels by the way, just saying this is part of the system)
