Feb 19th 2011 12:33AM (Autoblog)1. The inline 6 without the turbos isn't going to be around in the USA much longer. It's time is very short. 2012 will be it for the 3 series and the X3 will probably lose its inline 6 by 2013 too. The 528...not gonna hold onto the sweet inline 6 either.
2. The turbo 4 will be the base engine in the USA followed by the N55 turbo inline 6.
I'm not real happy about this as I've owned a few recent turbo cars and a few recent BMWs. The inline 6 is just more fun to drive hard. The turbos - be it a Audi TFSI or a BMW N54 = no thanks. They're just not fun to drive hard. There's no reward for wringing out the engine...just the opposite.
