DS Fanswag: Win a copy of Jam Sessions

Oct 2nd 2007 7:21PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Being as I am a jazz fiend, my first act of digital musicality would be to adapt some Bill Evans tunes to the guitar, anything in 3/4 because I love waltzes, and most especially "Very Early." :)

DS Fanboy interviews Treehouse's Rich Amtower

I saw the word Picross in here. Thank you, I love you, etc. I don't know if I'll ever be *not* addicted to that game. I don't know how it happened... but it HAS ME.

DS Daily: Can Brain Age take over America?

Sep 28th 2007 4:49PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
@Sensai: Me too... it also has something to do with "REGGIE!!!!" scrawled on the nameplate at the top.

@Orville the U.T.W.: I agree with you in part, but I must point out that it isn't as though they are attempting to reach one or the other - or even both at the same time. There are casual gamers who are going to pick up a DS just for things like Brain Age and little puzzle games, and then there is another separate, equally prevalent group that are after more "hardcore" traditional *actual games*. Personally, I began as one of the latter group and overlap in many aspects; I do own Brain Age, might eventually own Brain Age 2, and as I often reiterate, Picross owns my soul. There are also crossovers in the other direction. But I cannot assume that Nintendo has any delusions of casually-gaming, puzzle-loving folks picking up Brain Age and liking it so much that they then go after MP:H or Castlevania.
I have heard your argument echoed around the internet and can see where it comes from - things like Brain Age would seem to threaten gaming as we know it as more of this software comes to the public eye. When a group of people love something, it breaks them up to see it begin to be whored out to the masses as something any Joe can appreciate. But I cannot see in the long term the DS becoming a merely a PDA or piece of mental exercise equipment. It has the potential for an increasing effect on the public view of gaming as an acceptable activity, but there remains an appreciable and *appreciated* gap between this and "gaming" both in reputation and form.
S'my two cents, anyway.

DS Fanboy poll: Remakes of choice

Why can't I pick both Chrono Trigger and Mario Paint? Both would be SO awesome, and for completely different reasons...

PFD attachment. Seriously, games are great, and it could be a rockin' organizer... but I have it on me -at all times-. If it can't save me from drowning, what is it good for?

DS Daily: Handhelds and MMOs

I play WoW, but I -always- have my DS sitting next to me with something in it - usually something like Tetris, or, lately Picross, and I grab it up while someone in my group is AFK for a few, or while I'm looking for an instance run. Or while I'm smelting -a bazillion ores-.

It pays to be a pre-orderer for once

Sep 20th 2007 6:32PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Wow. Well, good job Australia. I can't begrudge them - when do they ever get anything special?
But, it looks like I don't get jack for pre-ordering through the store nearest to me (GameCrazy). I want a fancy box and stickers and stuff! Make an article saying they are giving me something :(

DS Daily: Wasted

New SMB was, I thought, ridiculously easy to beat compared to the old Mario games. The first game to disappoint me horribly was the Lunar game for the DS; but I bought it, since I collect that series. Total crap. The other one that got me, this RPG that you had to draw runes in that looked cool but I can't even remember the name of now, was just frustrating as hell. Didn't get too far in before I took it back and got something else. Picross has stolen my soul since :)

And all the gamers say awww

Congratulations!! Mmm pickles indeed... my mum ate a ton of pickles because of me. We expect pictures in February!

Promotional Consideration: You Can't Do That On Television

Brilliant and hilarious - not just the spots, either. I scrolled down to see the tags "gameboymicro, mouse, nudity" and giggled myself to death.
