Whoa, who is pagmer12? I wrote that last comment...

Whoa, calm down there, cowboy.

Firstly, I don't care how low the iPhone gets (with contract); I don't want one. I want a phone that provides a comparable user experience without the hangups that keep me (personally) from purchasing an iPhone, with exceptional media playback capabilities being high on the list of priorities. The Rachael UI seems to bring Android pretty damn close to that level.

Speculative price is not my point. Feature set is. Put your iTardness on the back burner for a second.

Looks a little busy, and they could probably simplify the needlessly flashy page transitions, but overall this looks pretty awesome to me.

Finally, a smartphone that looks like it can compete with the media playback capabilities of the iPhone. I've been looking to upgrade to one of these fancy Android phones, but I'll admit one of the larger hangups for me was the lack of an appealing media playback interface (something Apple definitely put a lot more work into than the makers of just about every other smartphone labeled an iPhone killer.) Even the Droid lacks in this department.

I'll have to seriously consider this Rachael. I finally might be able to combine two devices into a neat, appealing package...without buying an iPhone.

Marvel vs. Capcom for digital download hopes Marvel exec.

Do this, Capcom. Do this for Xbox Live, Capcom. Seriously, MvC2 for Xbox Live (just as it was, with nothing to potentially screw up the experience) would print money.

As a side note...am I really the only one who liked the soundtrack? One of my favorite fighting game soundtracks, ever. I thought the remixed Jazz/Lounge theme was very quirky and fun...a lot more interesting than you usual Techno/Rock fighting game junk.

LGC07: Nintendo booth tour reminds us we're not the target audience anymore

Aug 28th 2007 12:33PM (Joystiq)
Because Nintendo is the only company that has had to, traditionally, deal with crappy third party support. And, so far, the Wii only seems to be doing marginally better in that respect. Yeah, we'll be getting some good games(and my two most anticipated Wii games are third party titles--No More Heroes and Crystal Bearers), but the ratio of original titles built from the ground up for Wii to opportunistic mini-game crap and ports is a little alarming.

All of Nintendo's prized franchises will be out soon. In about the span of one year. That's insane. Great for the short term, and a lot of these games were delayed and took their sweet time coming, but what about the rest of the Wii's lifecycle? Games of this quality take years to make, and with all of them being released by the end of this year what else will there be to look forward to? New gamer IPs? Doubt it. Hammer was shelved and there hasn't been a peep from Disaster in about a year. And with Nintendo's *increasing* focus on non-gamers, and all their talk about how they've found the holy grail with non-gamers, better believe that this downtime is not going to be spent making more traditional games.

I call it now: Next year is going to be the year of Wii Fit. If it sells that's all they'll talk about. If it doesn't (and, honestly, I really don't think it'll sell that well), they're going to spend all their marketing power pushing it onto the public.

Regardless of opinions on whether or not Nintendo is abandoning gamers, I really think the show speaks for itself.

The traditional games are sequestered in a small area behind a curtain, the tour guide gives you about 15 minutes to gawk at the greatness, then takes you to the large show floor filled with Brain-everything while trying to convince you that what you just left behind is the "old world of gaming".

Hate to say it, but Nintendo has made their choice. It's no longer about expanding the market, as there's an obvious disparity in what market's getting their time and attention. No, they're 'switching' markets. It really does kind of seem like 2007 is the last hoorah for gamers with Nintendo. All of their great titles have all come out within the span of 1 year (this has never before happened). Hammer is shelved and Disaster seems to be going down the same road. All we know of next year for gamers is a watered down Mario Kart that will surely be drowned out by the huge marketing blitz Nintendo will have planned for Wii Fit.

It seems like, after this year, we're going to have to count on 3rd parties to provide the deep gaming experiences Nintendo seems set to abandon, but so many of them are set to try and cash in on non-gamers, even this may be scarce. Oh well, as long as nothing happens to No More Heroes and Crystal Bearers I should be fine with my Wii for a little longer. But, man, this is really depressing.
