Bungie's next game is 'massively multiplayer'

Mar 4th 2011 2:20AM (Joystiq)
@Coreymw Not only is PointlessPuppies 100% correct on all points, but Deus Ex has apparently only been pushed back because Square Enix wanted to release it in the next fiscal year, after the debacle that was Final Fantasy XIV.

AFAIK, Human Revolution is already finished, and Eidos Montreal is using the time to run the game through more polish (which is what Square claimed as the reason for the delay). Heck, they could be working on DLC in the extra time they've got now.

Amnesia dev now stable following 'tremendous' sales

@sammo21 Nowhere in my original comment did I say that it has to be on a console for me to want to play it. I already own it on Steam, and I already enjoy it on my computer, though you can't /assume/ that I /can/ play it on my computer. For all you know, I could be posting this from an iPad or a cheap netbook that couldn't handle the game if it tried.

I generally prefer keyboard and mouse controls for most first person games, but I would still pick the game up on day one if it was ported. It's just my small way to support Frictional's hard work, and gain achievements at the same time.

Yes, I'm well aware there isn't any combat, but a game doesn't have to have combat to be successful, on ANY system. If it did, we wouldn't have games like Wii Sports or Kinect Adventures. Honestly, if it IS ported, and it turns out to be a good port, I think it'll do pretty well.

If this is ported to the 360, I'll pick it up day one. Achievements for getting scared out of my mind? Sounds good to me.

BioShock marked down to two freaking dollars on Games For Windows today

Nov 20th 2010 8:15PM (Joystiq)
@ArkAngel No, Bioshock 1 does not have achievements on GFWL, as it's not a Live enabled game on the PC. Bioshock 2 however, is Live enabled.

@Drakkenfyre If the game is Live enabled, it uses the same achievement system, but the Xbox and PC versions of the game are treated as two different games for achievement stats. If you wanted, you could get 3100GS out of Fallout 3 if you played both versions.

@Morgon Yes, it's the same achievement/Gamerscore platform, but as Bioshock isn't Live enabled, you can't double the Gamerscore.

@Drakkenfyre
Unless GFW on Demand handles the integration of the GFWL overlay differently from the retail version, you don't have to be signed in to Live to play Bioshock. Seeing as Bioshock isn't Live enabled on the PC, I don't see any reason for it to. I don't even have to be signed in to Live to play Halo 2, RE5 or Fallout 3, all three of which ARE Live enabled, unless I want to get achievements.

Second, the GFWL overlay only runs with the game, and closes when you quit the game, and that's only on Live enabled games. The only part that doesn't work that way is the Marketplace application, which runs when YOU want it to, for DLC, Games on Demand, or whatever.
An example being Crysis, which, as a Games for Windows game, but NOT a Games for Windows Live game (same as Bioshock), doesn't require the GFWL application to be installed, nor does it attempt to install it.

Third, I'm not sure on the exact amount of resources that the GFWL overlay uses, but I don't think it's much more than the Steam overlay uses.

Don't get me wrong, I really don't care for GFWL. I'd much rather MS just put everything on, and use Steam like it's supposed to be.

New Halo novels to continue Ghosts of Onyx story

@Rhamsey Agreed. That's the one that I started with, before I even played Halo: CE. Yeah, I was 4 years late to the game.
Easily my favourite of the books, although The Fall of Reach and First Strike are close seconds.

That's why I have two Steam installs; one on my 1.5TB external drive, and one on my internal drive, for TF2, CS:S, HL1, Indigo Prophecy, Braid, et cetera smallish-in-size games.
Yes, that means that I have to open my internal Steam install every once and a while when I'm online to update everything, but I can also have every game I own through Steam installed at all times on my external.
