Analyst ponders impact of MW2 'Stimulus Package' pricing and success

Apr 22nd 2010 1:58PM (Joystiq)
That's also a quarter of the price of the game, no matter the system you bought it for.
If you count the campaign as half the price of the game, and the multiplayer as half, it's $30 each.
Divide that by the amount of maps included in the vanilla game, and it comes out to $1.875 per map. The map pack adds up to $9.375 that way, while it divides to $3 per map using the actual price of the pack.

If you add the original maps together by the $3 price—but also keeping the game at $60—that makes the vanilla multiplayer $48, but the campaign only $12, which makes no sense knowing Activision.

Ubisoft compensating PC gamers for DRM server outage

Mar 26th 2010 7:37PM (Joystiq)
The point is that when their servers crash—which they have, and will—you can't play the game until they're up again. If they somehow have a data loss, you'll probably have to start from scratch. That's gonna /SUCK/ if you're at the final half hour of the game. Imagine something like that happening with Dragon Age, Fallout 3, or even Pokémon!

If I buy a single player game, whether or not it has multiplayer, I want /my/ saves on /my/ hard drive. If I want to play offline, I won't be able to access their servers, and I won't have access to /my/ saves. It doesn't make any logical sense for a single player game to have to have a connection to an online server just to play.

Stupid comment system. That was @Ezio Auditore da Firenze, on JamesH's comment at the bottom of page 1/top of page 2.

What David said. All of it.

Besides, God of War 3 is a PS3 exclusive. Metro 2033 is 360 and PC exclusive. Leave your fanboyism elsewhere. There's more than enough exclusives for the respective console fans to enjoy what they can play/want to play, and not slam other gamers just because they either prefer a different console or just don't care for the one that /you/ (as in fanboys, not you as a person) prefer.

The way I see it, JamesH was simply pointing out the fact that Metro 2033 doesn't have the main spotlight right now. A worthy cause; I tip my hat to you, JamesH.

Valve confirms Mac support for Steam and Source Engine

Sorry, Marty, but I just finished playing Portal last week on /my/ 2007 MBP.
Maxed everything except AA, and I had that on 8x CSAA. Ended up with about 45 FPS normally, or 40 FPS if I was looking through a portal.
And that's the same settings (with slightly varied AA, depending on how it looks to me) that I play every other Source game with.
Your argument fails.
