Coke Comes Clean on Calories

Oct 2nd 2009 11:29AM (That's Fit)
Are people so lazy and/or inept that they can't read the current label and count or estimate calories? All the information is right there already.

Coca-Cola Sued Over VitaminWater's Deceptive Health Claims

People need to take responsibility for their actions. The labels are right there. If the man filing the lawsuit didn't read the label, well, that's his fault.

Serving size as well as ingredients are made perfectly clear.

So Not Hot Celebs - These 11 Should Make a Fitness Resolution

This kind of mean-spirited trash belongs on some nasty gossip site, not here.

High Fructose Corn Syrup - Just Like Honey

Dec 28th 2008 2:19PM (That's Fit)
We're eating more and exercising less. People don't let their kids out to just run around and be kids anymore. Schools are cutting PE. People are driving more.

If the number of calories we take in, regardless of their source, is more than we need, we will gain weight. Simple. Better to heed that than to look for a scapegoat in the ingredients.

Diet Soda Will Cost You Less Than the Sugary Stuff

Dec 17th 2008 2:58AM (That's Fit)
It's stupid and discriminatory. If there is to be a budget-closing tax on beverages, then tax anything that people drink other than water, juice, and milk. Tax people's morning coffee (after all, caffeine is no good for you, right?. Tax tea (caffeine). Tax sports drinks. Energy drinks.

Tax all of it or just don't tax any of it. To try to mask this as some sort of health move is absurd.

Where do you stand on the HFCS debate?

Everything in moderation is classic advice for a reason. Getting too overly neurotic about everything is bad for your health too, you know.

Your Turn: Do you LIKE exercise?

Sep 3rd 2008 5:38PM (That's Fit)
I hate it. It's torturous and I'm trying but failing to go regularly. I've tried tons of methods to distract myself, to not distract myself (the old listening to your body and concentrating on that approach), to mix it up, to try intervals, to challenge myself to reach new markers. It's just incredibly boring and not at all mentally stimulating.

I hate it.

Apparently, juice doesn't cause childhood obesity

Jul 23rd 2008 2:07PM (That's Fit)
Oh come on! "Equally harmful cousin". "Number one ingredient"? You're HORRIBLY biased. First of all, the "number one ingredient" in juice is WATER, so don't mislead your readers.

And juice is not harmful, so placing it within the same category as soda takes a heck of a lot of nerve. Where soda has added sugars, juice is 100% all natural. Milk has naturally-occurring sugars in it too.

Juice is nutrient packed (though alas, it's missing the fiber of whole fruit) and a healthy part of a meal.

Sugar isn't harmful in and of itself. It's overconsumption of anything, as you noted. But this entire post is misleading due to your bias.

Healthy diet may make more boy babies

Apr 23rd 2008 3:01PM (That's Fit)
Since she didn't bother to provide any links to the study, I'll explain that it originally said that diet at conception supposedly affected sex of the baby. So, mothers who were on calorie-restricted diets when they conceived were slightly more likely to have girls.

New picture book, 'My Beautiful Mommy' teaches kids plastic surgery equals beauty

Apr 23rd 2008 3:17AM (That's Fit)
Sorry, no it does not equate plastic surgery with beauty. That's an oversimplification. It says that this mom will come back "prettier", sure, but as I said, nobody has plastic surgery to look worse.

But this doesn't equate plastic surgery with beauty. It merely acknowledges that looking better is this mom's motive for choosing this surgery. And what's wrong with that? I'm all for acceptance, but I'm also all for adults choosing what to do with their own bodies without shame.

That 18-year old died from a surgical procedure meant to correct a congenital deformity. Would you have the same sick attitude toward women who are, say, undergoing breast implant surgery as a reconstructive procedure after mastectomy?
