XBLA in Brief: Beyond Good & Evil HD

Mar 2nd 2011 6:39PM (Joystiq)
@jsx92 "Kids" is a rather arbitrary term. I know a 10 year old down the street (who happens to play waaaayyyy too much Black Ops). I would consider him to be a kid. He saw this demo and thought it looked lame. Too "cartoony" (his words). He thought it looked like more of a kids game (which is what I thought he was - maybe I was wrong???). It wasn't COOL enough. To him, cool games are ones that have more realistic (less stylized) graphics, have realistic blood, and head shots, and swearing. That's what he considers cool. So anyway, my point is that saying a game is for kids can have drastically different meanings to different people, as there's no point of reference given regarding when one crosses over from kid to not-kid.

On the other hand, I know several adults in their 30's that loved this game. They cited the graphics, the story, the music, and the Zelda like gameplay. I completed the game, and personally wouldn't call it childish. That's just my opinion though. For people that aren't into Zelda style games, I can understand that this wouldn't do it for them. But Zelda fans I think would really be missing out if they didn't play this game. I wouldn't recommend this game for young kids (though they may enjoy watching), as I think it'd be too difficult (especially the stealth sequences, which IMO were fun, and a tiny bit similar to MGS2 stealth segments).
Anyway, if a sci-fi Zelda sounds interesting, check it out! And btw, the music is incredible.

Though, if you have no idea what 70's Fusion is, you'll probably all hate it. :*(

When I saw the screenshot, I expected the dev to be Studio Pixel. Anywho, I'll check it out. I'm all for indie devs.

Mass Effect 2 on PS3 outfitted with Mass Effect 3 engine

@Billlop

"You do realise that Mirrors Edge, as well as Dead Space and a quite a few other games, were developed FOR the PS3 and then ported to 360. SO THOSE GAMES ARE BETTER ON THE PS3." (emphasis mine)

Wow, you know, you're right. I remember back in the prior gen that most games were developed first on the PS2, and then ported to the XBOX and Gamecube with lower res texture, lower framerate, and less features. Right?....................
Oh wait. No that's not right.....I mixed that up huh?
They ported to the Xbox and GC from PS2. And (the Xbox 1 at least) pretty much always ended up w/ the better product - higher res, better framerate, etc..
Point is, porting from the PS3 to the 360 does NOT mean that the port is the inferior version. It is often done that way because it's EASIER and more COST EFFECTIVE for the devs than the opposite. It's much more difficult to develop first for the Xbox and then port to the PS3. Traditionally, it was more difficult when you were converting a port from a more powerful system to a less powerful system (ie - porting from Xbox to the PS2). It took a more powerful system to handle the bloat from porting code from a different architecture.

In the case of PS3 and 360, that point is now largely moot. Many dev tools these days (ie - UE3) are able to create games for both PS3 and 360 in parallel, with each being properly optimized for their respective systems, without porting. That's why multiplatform games tend to be so similar.

As far as ME2 on PS3, it's awesome to hear that Bioware's doing this. I wish more devs put that much effort into bringing existing games to new platforms. It's clear that they expect this to be a top seller on PS3, as it should. AMAZING game.

Super Meat Boy's 'Sewers of Dross' DLC now available, Team Meat details five more additions

@MLS Yep, just a few days ago, I discovered that I had 2 less bandages than I did when I turned the game off previously. :-\
I was pretty pissed when I got A+ on all dark world levels in the woods, and that progress was almost completely erased.
Still love the game though.

Kinect moves 1m units in first 10 days; 'on track' to hit goal of 5m this year

@mmmfishtacos It's already been said, but 1mil shipped not= 1mil sold. Those are 2 completely different metrics.
1mil shipped = 1mil sold to retailers (Gamestop, Walmart, etc.)
1mil sold = 1mil sitting in people's homes

ICO / Shadow of the Colossus HD bundle pops up in another retail listing, with box art

Sep 14th 2010 2:38PM (Joystiq)
I really hope this ends up being true. These are two of my absolute favorite ps2 games. And sadly, as fantastic as ICO is, it really hasn't aged well at all. It was low res even for its time.
Now how about an HD remake of Okami w/ Move support. Hahha. ;)
