Microsoft's Japan-only Blue Dragon bundle [update 1]

Oct 8th 2006 1:37AM (Joystiq)
This is part of the reason why I try not to comment on blogs and forums: You can't tell who's who and who's what kind of person. You can't tell if someone's joking or not. You laugh at people who can't figure out a joke. And you laugh at people who didn't intend a joke.

I will not play the "Who's a racist?" game on a videogame site. So, enjoy giving yourself carpal tunnel, and goodnight.

PS: Joystiq, if you're reading this, is there anyway we can get emails of bloggers so that we can tell them personally about how we feel? Just a suggestion.

And... I have to read newer comments before posting. Side note to myself.

Everyone, feel free to ignore the overzealous patriot Bandit.

Face it, no one's perfect. This "round eyes" comment, I'm sure, was a slip-up, and we all make slip-ups. I've done something similar a couple of times before towards a white friend of mine, and I've apologized after he pointed out the offenses. He was cool with it. Nothing to it. One little slip-up doesn't automatically make a person a racist. If Vladimir said something like: "Yeah, all Asians like to drive Civics. Fuckin' Asians", THEN I would have cause to worry. But "round eyes"? Meh.

Now, this whole furor over "round eyes" - guys, don't overreact. If you don't like it, just give a little point-out, not a tirade, and THEN give a little time for Vladimir to respond. If he doesn't apologize within a few days, then feel free to blast him. It's only been about two hours after he's posted this blog up, so... patience, people. Patience.

I would like to say to any overzealous Americans out there (especially YOU, BANDIT): No one country is perfect. People laugh at overzealous patriots, so you ain't helping yourself, kid. You're just making a fool out of yourself here.

I'm going to be out and see how this will hold over. Oh, and I'm Chinese-American, by the way. Just saying.

You know when you call tech support, there's always a lady voice saying "thank you for calling, please hold" or similar? Who knew she could be so GANGSTA, YO!

Not even a minute in and I knew this was going to be bad. Two minutes in, I wished I knew how to stop myself from watching any more.

Three new Guitar Hero II tracks announced

I was thinking Joe Satriani would be a good one, although given how limited the controller is, I wonder if it's feasible.
Can we get some Scorpions in there? Please?

Gamer feels cheated by FFXI's sneaky hidden fees [update 1]

Apr 22nd 2006 9:49PM (Joystiq)
Something about all these comments appals me:

There's a lot of people who call Freeberg stupid, who should have done his research, who's a "casual" gamer. Then there's the people who support Freeberg and flame "hardcore gamers" and "fanboys" for picking on him.

Excuse me, people. This has nothing to do with who's what kind of gamer. This has to do with CONSUMER RESPONSIBILITY. Know the ins and outs of a product, as much as you can, before buying. I don't care if it's a FINAL FANTASY game. I myself play that series, but I treat it with the same hesitant attitude as I do with other games - that is, I read up on reviews or whatever to see if it's worth buying.

You want to know something? $50 to $60 is A LOT OF MONEY. Take some time to do research before plucking down that credit card. Even if you didn't, EXAMINE the product when you can hold it, front, back, top, bottom, sides. What does it say? Whenever I buy something, I always read every word on it. EVERY WORD, yes, even the fine print. Ok, maybe you don't need to do it for food, but for something that's non-consumable, READ. It doesn't take an hour to read everything on a game package.

It's just common sense. SIMPLE, COMMON - you know what? I have no sympathy for people who don't take responsibility for their own actions. If you got gyped because you didn't research, boo hoo. Haste makes waste.

I better get out of here before I blow over. People just need common sense... Damn... This is starting to sound like the McDonalds'-make-you-fat case.

Gamer feels cheated by FFXI's sneaky hidden fees [update 1]

I hate to bash Freeberg, but he isn't a very good shopper.
- He sold his PS2 for an Xbox, because he bought into the hype. *first siren*
- He waited for FFXI desperately, without looking up reviews and previews, because he thought they would spoil the story. *second siren*
- He bought it, still without looking up review and previews. *CODE ALERT*
WARNING: Above symptoms indicate impulse-buying.

I sympathize with Freeberg in that he's a casual gamer and doesn't know as much as "hardcore" gamers do. However, even as a casual gamer, he should have some sense about being a consumer in general. If something costs a lot of money, and $50 IS quite a bit, common sense should tell you to research before making a purchase. You can go ahead and buy clothing without researching beforehand because there's dressing rooms for you to try them. But for products that can't be tested with your hands, you have to do research. Read reviews (and the majority of reviews don't spoil the story). This applies not just to games, but to electronics and many other things.

Also, the box clearly states that the game requires Xbox Live and a monthly fee, and on another corner of it states the words "online only". Even if a sticker was slapped onto one of these texts (as Freeberg claimed), the other text should still be visible. "Online only" itself rings "possible monthly fee", and Freeberg should know that not everything online is free (because he used Gamefly before, a suscription-based service).

Sorry, Freeberg. I understand you're not exactly a hardcore gamer, but please, don't be like my mom (who buys snacks at the dollar store because, well, "they're a dollar!" and the food tastes like crap). Have some common consumer sense.

God help this man if he bought a Gizmondo because of whatever hype it had oh-so-long-ago.

10 franchises that need to return

Apr 21st 2006 8:57PM (Joystiq)
Too bad I'm not old enough to remember most of the games mentioned here. That said, here's my list:

- Golden Axe. I remember playing it on a PC way-back-when.
- Definitely System Shock
- And while we're at it, can someone make a good Thief game? Deadly Shadows wasn't that great.
- Syndicate
- Perhaps Tyrian
- Bushido Blade

That's all I can think of for now.

Crysis redefines the 'game face'

Apr 20th 2006 9:19PM (Joystiq)
This is like evaluating a blonde girl at first sight. Pretty on the outside, jackass on the inside - unless there's proof that this blondie has the brains.

Sorry if I've offended any blondes here *slaps herself in the face*.

Joystiq readers critique Hitman advertisement

Apr 14th 2006 1:25PM (Joystiq)
Can I ask why I wasn't able to post comments on this ad, and also the new ad put up today (or last night, or whatever)? It could be just my browser, but then I was able to post comments on other entries on the same page. Just a little complaint.
