I would much rather do this the other way around. Why do this when you could buy a core duo laptop from a vender who doesn't gouge you so badly on the hardware and run OSX on it. It's been done before, and it's probably better and cheaper than this. Plus, if you buy a notebook that already runs XP, you don't have to worry about cpu fan support.
OMG 34. Thank you. This is exactly what pisses me off about vista critics. People look at it as an xp upgrade. It's not. It's a new OS, and it's not meant for every computer out there. It's been years since xp came out, and the capabilities of your average Joe Shmoe's hardware are no longer barely peeping over the minimum requirements for FreeBSD.
If your hardware con't handle vista, either upgrade or sit tight and stfu. I'm tired of plebs crying about how they won't be able to run vista with all the eye candy turned on and they don't have money to upgrade because they live in a cardboard box in somalia and they only have a stolen $100 laptop. Microsoft is not forcing you to buy vista. There are plenty of people running 98, 2000 and ME right now. At least they don't bitch and moan about XP the way you guys do about vista.
@18: Nope. Other companies are allowed to put circular navigation devices on the front of their products, although they do so at the risk of being labelled an ipod poser by every other engadget user. But no, apple has not patented the circle yet, AFAIK.
Why do people keep complaining about the lack of itunes support? It's like whining when the xbox 360 can't connect with your iMac to load stuff onto the HDD. Why on earth would any other player have itunes support? Do you think apple would support the product by ensuring continued compatibility? I think not.
And why do you apple fanatics keep moaning about these so called "ipod knockoffs"? Did apple invent the mp3 playing rectangular prism with screen and buttons? I'm pretty sure they didn't. Most mp3 player are rectangular with buttons and a screen. Are they under some obligation to use bizzare layouts now that apple has claimed the idea of buttons under the screen? Did I not get the memo?
Last time I checked, apple was using a wheel while everyone else using buttons and strips and whatnot. How can you call every other media device mentioned on this site an ipod poser? Is it because they're rectangles? Is it the buttons? Or is it the hideous idea of an alternative to the nearly ubiquitous ipod, searing in your closed minds with the heat of a thousand suns?
And while we're on the subject of asthetics, at least this player isn't "self engraving" like the nano. This may not have a beautiful glossy sheen, but then, it could probably survive an encounter with a cotton ball and emerge with a useable screen.

Will your PC run Vista? Don't ask Microsoft.
