Microsoft pulls apart a Kinect camera, tickles your non-gaming fetish
Aug 7th 2010 4:37PM (Engadget)I actually think the other way around. I think the EyeToy will be successful but not as much as the Kinect. The same kind of games that are being made for the EyeToy can be made for the Kinect and hold a regular remote instead or a stick, Kinect can see any object you put in front of it, it doesn't need a light to capture the motion. The EyeToy is similar to the Wii while the Kinect has way more innovating possibilities. We'll see what happens though.

Jul 12th 2010 12:41AM (Engadget)You can buy individual songs songs (DRM-free MP3s) from Zune too. Most of them are higher bitrates than AmazonMP3 as well. The Zune Pass is an added (optional) benefit. If you have it you get 10 free songs that you can keep forever even if you cancel your pass. Essentially you're pay less than $5 for access to most of the Zune Marketplaces music content which you can also stream via web browser on any computer that has an internet connection. As well as stream directly to the devices over Wifi and soon over 3G on Windows Phone 7 devices.
HTC files seemingly confirm Mondrian, Mozart to be Windows Phone 7 handsets
Jul 8th 2010 9:23PM (Engadget)Who needs 128 GB storage? You'll be able to use your Zune Pass with these phones and stream music wherever you go (wherever you have a wireless signal). I think 64 GB would be enough, 32 GB for most people would probably be perfect. I'm really excited about the Zune integration.
@pedmart
I find that reason for not needing a lot of space to be kind of stupid. It isn't like people are installing every app in the marketplace.

Jul 8th 2010 9:12PM (Engadget)Companies who want to sell phones. The OS comes with the price of the phone. The consumers never really see it. An equivalently spec'd Android phone is going to be the same price as a Windows Phone regardless of Android being royalty-free. Which it really isn't because those like HTC making Android devices have to pay Microsoft to use Android.
Microsoft layoffs: the axeman cometh? (update)
Jul 7th 2010 6:28AM (Engadget)It isn't 80k ppl who Microsoft will layoff. That number is their total work force. They will be laying off less that 5k. it's just those 80k ppl don't know who is going to be the 5k to be let go.
Behind the scenes with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 team: 'I think about this really as a first release'
Jun 17th 2010 6:08PM (Engadget)WP7 is not a copy of what Apple is doing. Their concept of the devices are completely different. Microsoft has been in the phone business. Yes they became stagnant and let new competitors come in and make them look like a joke, but now they are fighting back with a completely new OS not reminiscent of the iPhone OS or Android (which are very similar as far as appearance sans the HTC Sense. They can definitely become a competitor. Especially with the Xbox integration (which is huge) and Zune integration (which if anyone could compete with Apple in the music space it's Microsoft). iTunes and Zune have the strongest ecosystems for entertainment, one is just a lot more popular than the other right now.

Jun 8th 2010 7:59PM (Engadget)I agree with most of what you said but come one, people don't use MMS because it costs so much. MMS has been included with AT&T's Messaging (which includes SMS, MMS, and IM) plans for at least three years now. I'm pretty sure the other carriers do the same. I don't know anyone who doesn't send and receive pictures from their phone unless it just isn't capable.
