Brink review: Jumping high and falling flat

May 10th 2011 9:10PM (Joystiq)
McElroy is commenting on balance aspects of the MP part of this game. To be able to judge these accurately even 6-12 hours wouldn't be enough. The balance of MP games is delicate and every single on of them needs several readjustments over the lifetime of the game. The criticisms that McElroy seems to be able to deduce from his short playtime make it pretty obvious that this is can't be a thorough review of the MP aspect of the game.

I am not stating that Brink is not a bad game, mind you (I don't actually know). What I am stating is that McElroy seems not to be in a position to make this call after such a short time actually playing the game.

Lorne Lanning laments 'The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot' that never was

Command & Conquer 4 won't have LAN support or dedicated servers

Feb 21st 2010 10:43AM (Joystiq)
"It all lives on a server so you can't really do dedicated servers with that."

Nonsense. Of course you can do that. The dedicated servers just need to connect to the central server to access the data. Team Fortress 2 does this.

Nintendo unveils Wii MotionPlus accessory for 'unmatched precision'

Jul 14th 2008 3:02PM (Joystiq)
Okay I am trying to make an educated guess here (I played around with Wiimote programming on my PC for a bit)

The Wiimote has a built-in accelerometer that measures g-force in three direction (when the WM is in free-fall all axis have a value of 0 g). Take note: it measures g-force - NOT orientation. Thus an accelerometer by itself has limitations. The accelerometer in the Wiimote is actually accurate - that is not the problem.

For example the Wiimote does not allow for calculating a correct yaw without IR camera/sensor bar support. Even then it ain't that good.

My guess is that the MotionSensePlus has a built-in gyroscope which is actually used for measuring orientation.

If I am correct this would allow for much more natural motion sensing.

As for why they may not have included it before: gyroscopes are more expensive than accelerometers AFAIK.

Crytek threatens to leave Germany over violent game laws

Aug 22nd 2007 8:02PM (Joystiq)
Well the Social Democrat party isn't to keen on the violent games either.
It's the three smaller parties (Liberal Democrats, Greens, Socialists) that have stated no interest in legeslating tougher violent games laws.

I am not sure if this was already posted. The German website cynamite.de which hosts the offical German Bioshock Community forums annonced that the PC demo will be released on tuesday. It has been mentioned on the forums that it too might need activation.

The Darkness delayed for the Germans

Jul 1st 2007 6:18PM (Joystiq)
Well I guess a genocide of this epic proportions could certainly be conducted without information trickling down to ordinary people - not.

In fact, the fourth paragraph of that very Wikipedia
article you link to hints at this.

I am not saying that every single one of our grandfathers did know what was happening.
But acting like that generation could wash their hands in innocence is ludicrous in my eyes.

I don't feel personally responsible or guilty for this part of German history. But I certainly won't allow it to be white-washed.

The Darkness delayed for the Germans

That "Zee Germans didn't know about the Holocaust"-meme doesn't really chime with me.

I was taught something else in my school's history lessons - in Germany by the way.
