Star Wars: The Old Republic's PvP 'Warzones' detailed in video
Nov 8th 2010 9:37AM (Joystiq)2 words. Persistant World. That's what you get for $15, and it makes allll the difference.
No, I'm not feeling super positive about the game, and this video doesn't do anything to change that sentiment, but I'll gladly pay $15 a month for a true MMO over crap like Guild Wars that is /NOT/ an MMO. It's simply a multiplayer action RPG with a graphical lobby and trade system.

Massively Speaking Episode 100: The state of MMOs with Richard Garriott
May 20th 2010 10:31PM (Massively)While I agree with many of his views regarding the past and present, I disagree entirely with his view on free/freemium games. I'd rather buy (from his example) ultima online from a store (brick or steam) and pay monthly for a full complete game than participate in a game that is slim by default and made more robust in small 2-5 dollar increments.
I prefer the traditional full, rich game model as opposed to what I consider incomplete experiences.
Details, limitations of Xbox 360 Mediaroom 2.0 IPTV support
Jan 9th 2010 11:04AM (Joystiq)IPTV has traditionally followed an ala carte model as well where I can pay 6 bucks for ESPN and not pay a dime for HGTV, or vice versa. Comcast gets paid to include the lesser channels in their lineup. If they can't sell you a package that includes the channels that also pay them, it's not profitable for them.
As long as the cable companies are also our ISPs, we'll never see a reasonable change. It's more likely that we'll see comcast/cox/tw start to block what few IPTV options that are out there.

Nov 2nd 2009 8:22PM (Engadget)I'm not saying they're going to pull it off, but the technology alone that they're using it for is worth the try. 2nd and 3rd generations of this stuff and it's going to replace google maps with a fully 3d realized dataset for google earth.
