If I said "I met some guy who claims that his brother gave Steve Jobs the idea to name 'Apple' 'Apple'", you'd dismiss it. But Woz gives the same half-assed story and now it's "fact"?

Hey, Woz, how about getting confirmation from the other Steve that it's true?

By the way, my brother's wife's half cousin first removed by marriage came up with "iPod".

Since most USB ports don't have the juice to charge these devices, Apple should have made a charger that plugs into both the computer and the wall at the same time. Like the old Treo power adapter.

Either that, or make it so these devices can sync to your computer over Wi-Fi.

I'd like this as a feature for one reason: to listen to the news. There are no FM news stations in NYC, and I don't think that there are any modern devices with built-in am tuners. However 1010 WINS has a HD station. Every so often when I'm out, there's a need to listen to the news (weather, train problems, etc), so I would welcome this.

I'd say that the Apple Stores emulate high-end fashion boutiques.

I did the install. It's recopying my entire music library to my iPod. Thank god I have the 3rd Gen Touch, or it wouldn't finish until tomorrow.

Whoa, you're so right. They shouldn't be counted as apps. At the very least there should be an asterisk with a note that says that 29,000 apps are either books in the public domain, or books that you've never heard of.

The Dr. Seuss books might count as an app, though :)

I'd love to see Apple take a broom to the Navigation app store. There are literally hundreds of apps based on openmaps.org. Search for: New York City Offline Map and you'll see 10 "applications" with the same exact screencap (sorry, I mean "map") of New York City. And what a fugly map it is. Click on the companies' name, and you'll see that they released the same app for every major city in the world.

If these apps existed in the real world, they'd be sold at 99¢ stores for a dime apiece - and they'd STILL have no takers.

But I'm in total agreement with the comments on how cheap people are with decent apps. I'd like to believe that most of these complainers are kids on an allowance - people who don't know the toil that goes into making a good app. I'm still irked when people comment on how good a game is, but they're upset that it cost $8. Pac-Man still costs $15 on Palm's website, but you can get Pac-Man Championship Edition for the iPhone for $8 and people are crying about it.

If it works like a Verizon aircard (and I'm pretty sure that it does), all you have to do to get the texts is to connect the MiFi to a laptop and run the VZAccess Manager. In the lower part of the window, you'll probably see an envelope icon - double click on it and you'll see the messages.

I had this same problem. I deleted over 400MB of applications and now everything is OK. I got rid of the American Heritage Dictionary (300MB) and aSleep (100MB). The problem isn't necessarily "how many", it's "how much".
