Motorola Sholes Android phone for Verizon appears in the flesh

"Virtual keyboards suck"

But having your spacebar between the "V" and the "B" doesn't???? This keyboard looks unusable.

National Safety Council calls for nationwide ban on cellphone use while driving

What some studies have shown is that talking on the phone is *very* different than talking to a person who is actually with you. Talking on the phone activates different areas of the brain - similar to daydreaming. You're much less attentive to what's going on in front of you.

Keyboard doesn't *feel* cheap. It feels heavy and solid and industrial.

Power button is on the bottom right if you look at the back - if you're looking at the front, place your hand on the bottom left of the "chin", and your fingers wrap around to instantly find the button -- concave and made from a very different-feeling material.

And the chin is reminiscent not of Jay Leno, but of the old stereotypical 80's Macintosh, the all-in-one case & the screen at the top:

Apple 4G iMac: first unboxing, impressions

I agree... the photos honestly don't do this thing justice. I got one when I saw the picture on the box on Tuesday. (I'd been waiting the past 6 months on an update.)

When I got it out of the box it was even more beautiful. Very, very slick. The black/silver combo doesn't look as mundane as one would expect, because the materials look and feel really quality. (When Dell does black and silver the plastic feels cheap to me).

All the details have a very industrial, feel to them, the edges are very crisp, and the overall style feels a bit retro 80's, but in a badass way. ;)

The only thing that throws me about the keyboard is they changed the layout of the function keys. I don't find the keyboard difficult to type on... the keys have a very satisfying feel when you press them... had to explain but they just feel good.

It's the little details and materials and finishes that make some people love apple products, and some people just not "get" apple products. Not everybody appreciates these things.

I can't detect any sleep light on mine. I was hoping that the apple logo would glow. I miss it too... that irregular little pulse gave my old iMac a bit of personality while it slept.

Also, the wired keyboard gives you two extra USB 2.0 ports, with enough power & data speed to support a flash drive, iPod, digital camera, etc.

Heavenly Sword demo too short? Watch these vids

Jul 28th 2007 2:20AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I'm enjoying the hell out of the demo...

I've played it maybe 15 times now, each time trying to learn a different aspect of her varied fighting moves -- not just the different stances, but breaking your opponent's blocks, aerial combos, counter attacks after blocking, using the sword to knock objects at your enemies, etc.

I definitely see the God of War comparisons, but the fighting really has *so* much more depth to it -- there are 12 screens of instructions on what she can do.

I wasn't expecting to have 20 minutes of the story revealed... a demo's supposed to leave you wanting more. I just wanted to finally wield that sword. ;)

PS3 European launch helped sell over 180,000 Blu-ray movies

Jul 4th 2007 4:39PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Blu-ray isn't just about HiDef movies, it's also trying to future proof their games by not being restricted to a 9Gb DVD.

5 years ago, 9Gb was a lot of data. In a couple of years from now? Maybe not so much.
