First footage of Netflix on PS3 {Joystiq}

Nov 6th 2009 2:56PM I can verify that it looks bad. I received my disk this morning and promptly gave it a go. They definitely have some work to do in comparison to the quality found on the 360. And for the time being I will still be using my 360 for Netflix.

That being said, remember that this wasn't so hot on 360 when it first started either, and they have had a year head start to get it right. I imagine when they finally get it built into a firmware update, and it is available via the XMB without a disk, the kinks will be worked out. But for someone like me, it doesn't matter. I've got it on both systems, and will just use the one that is the most convenient.

Mark Cuban on net neutrality: Wacky, wrong, or both? {Daily Finance}

Sep 26th 2009 2:54PM @Clayton, You clearly have not even a modicum of understanding of what net neutrality is.

Poll: Will you buy a PS3 Slim to use as a Blu-ray player? {Engadget HD}

Aug 29th 2009 3:40PM Since when is the PS3 a slow BR player? It has always been considered one of the fastest BR players being that it is a giant computer. I don't understand that comment in the poll.

Final Fantasy XIV's first jobs and race names revealed {Massively}

Aug 5th 2009 6:08PM Dagonis is probably on to something that we've been discussing on Killing Ifrit forums. I forget at the moment, but believe it was FFIV that didn't have leveling and you rather chose specific skills to increase. They have said nothing about the accumulation of some type of points. It's entirely possible that what we are going to have is the FFXI merit system for the entire games "leveling". Fights, quests, etc could earn a player points, and then the player exchanges the points for an increase in a particular skill or purchases new job abilities, weapon skills, etc with those points.

Change your weapon and your skills change. i.e. If I equip a sword I would be able to use points toward an increase in accuracy or strength, where as if I were to equip a staff for a mage job I could use points to increase my mana points cap.

Crafting would be the same way. I equip a hatchet and I can put points toward an increase in logging skills.

The only downfall I see here is that FFXI had a decent amount of options in the weapon types any job could use, whereas it appears that FFXIV jobs will be limited to fewer weapon choices since the weapon essentially determines the job.

I am eager to see how ranged jobs work. I would love for them to get rid of ammo in the way it was used in FFXI. It became entirely too pricey. Possibly the equipping of a bow simply allows ranged attack without the need for using up ammo.

Halo Wars stats wiped, may not come back {Joystiq}

Jul 29th 2009 8:42PM If I had my rank wiped in GOW2 I'd quit. So much hard work down the drain. Wouldn't be able to convince myself to do it all over. I despise Halo, but I certainly feel for the guys that put hours into the game only to see their hard work lost.

How not to pitch Halo 3: ODST {Joystiq}

Jul 28th 2009 7:21PM I'm not a Halo fan, but I played through the original and Halo 3 and it was fairly enjoyable, but certainly not the title everyone makes it out to be.
ODST simply does not interest me in one bit. But I could see a very compelling story line in Reach. The teaser indicates that it takes place after the initial attack. There is an opportunity there for us to see tons of Spartans still alive and fighting, which sounds awesome! It would be akin to Knights of the Old Republic when you still had tons of Jedi running around.
I'd certainly like to see the hayday of the Spartans. But ODST, no thanks.

Gears of War 2 'All Fronts' and 'Dark Corners' DLC available now {Joystiq}

Jul 28th 2009 10:49AM @Trey, Dark Corners is stand alone.

Dark Corners = Only new maps + deleted campaign scenario for 1200pts

All Fronts = ALL previous map packs + new maps + deleted campaign scenario for 1600pts

The previous map packs had 3-5 maps for 800pts. Dark Corners has 7 maps and a new campaign scenario for only 400 more points. Do I want to pay 1200pts? No. But they are giving us more content than previous map packs. So it only stands to reason the price is higher.

PSP version of Myst hitting PlayStation Network July 16 {Joystiq}

Jul 12th 2009 1:54AM Well they did cut the size for Myst for iPhone in half with the latest update. Maybe they are learning a few tricks to manage size.
And additionally with the hard drive size of the iPhone growing, space concerns may become less of an issue.
I think with Riven though there is an issue of video boxes within video boxes or something to that nature. Which isn't possible on the iPhone architecture. You would think the PSP wouldn't have this issue though.

iPhone OS 3.1 beta now available for developer community {Engadget}

Jul 1st 2009 5:16AM @Running Gadget Actually since I upgraded everything is slow. The system lags upon opening every app, even official Apple apps. It's been very frustrating. And turned using my phone into a terrible user experience at this point.

Epic dishes on Gears of War 2 TU4, Dark Corners Achievements {Joystiq Xbox}

Jun 23rd 2009 1:03PM No kidding. They have lost all creativity. Everything that has to do with a new map is always in horde. Where are weapons achievements?
Why not switch it up... "Get 25 kills with the scorcher on X new map", "Get 25 headshots on X new map?", "Use an enemy as a meat shield on X new map"?
All their new achievements are so lame...
