April Fools: Old Republic's final, final class revealed: Sarlacc Enforcer

Apr 2nd 2010 6:29AM (Joystiq)
Sadly a lot of these April Fools jokes are things I'd have liked to actually exist. Pokemon Kart? Romancing an Elcor? And playing as a static pit of fangs and tentacles. Argh.

Whenever I play Halo from now on, I'll be picturing myself playing as a cheerful dancing Indian man.

Dude, we don't all have time to sit on IGN refreshing every ten seconds. They posted it, it's still April 1st, what's the issue? It's not like it was only devastatingly relevant before midday.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions reveals 'Amazing' and 'Noir' settings

Have you seen the dozen or so stories on Activision and Kotick in recent months? They're currently at a 'Dr Evil' level of "surely they can't get away with this crap" mischief. The corporate hate certainly isn't random.

Hands-on: Battleblock Theater (XBLA)

Urgh, I can't wait for this. Preview in GamesTM looked fantastic, as did the epic trailer.

PAX Poll: Raise your hand if you like review scores

Mar 26th 2010 7:41PM (Joystiq)
I like review scores when done well - a 1-10 scale where 5 actually means average rather than appalling. Of course, I always use it in tandem with reading the full review, but I figure if you're too lazy to read the written review you deserve to make a bad purchase if the score is iffy.

The main problem with scores always seems to be the inflation that seems to come with sequels or hyped games, but the way I see it, the score simply represents the inflation or hype that is nonetheless present in the written review. It's just that the number helps demonstrate that more tangibly. Or something.

Basically, the score is a nice at-a-glance thing, but if you want to actually know about the quality of the game you need to read the whole review.

/common sense essay.

Review: Red Steel 2

Mar 23rd 2010 12:18PM (Joystiq)
It's true. Killzone 2 invented turning dials. Especially the ones operating machinery. I think it might have invented masked enemies too, so that's another thing Red Steel has just stolen. Urgh.

I'll probably rent this out anyway, since I think the setting looks like a lot of fun, but between God of War III, Metro 2033 and Modnation Racers I don't think I can afford to buy another full game...

HD, you're right! How did nobody see this?!

...

Lol. Solid, quality silliness.
