Kojima Productions announces new MGS4 trailer at E3

Jul 5th 2007 3:38PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I don't understand how the perception that they won't announce it on 360 is "good news". I'm sorry, I thought we were gamers, not corporate cult leaders. The more people to get this game, the better. I have a PS3 and will most likely buy MGS4 for it, but I wouldn't want Konami or Kojima Productions to go out of business because of some cronyistic loyalty to a company that's in 3rd place in installed base.

So what are you gonna do if Konami announces MGS4 for 360? Boycott Konami? Start an online petition?

Our $600 may have bought us a great system, but it's not worth selling your soul to Sony (nor to MS and Nintendo. Heck, not even to Apple or any other company).

As much as you would like it to happen, your PS3 will never reciprocate the love you give it.

Jaffe swears off blogging ... was it something we said?

@blasphemizer:

No one's gonna miss you posting in Joystiq. I wouldn't doubt that you'll be back under a different name. Take it easy on the CAPS LOCK.

@DBX00:

Why should anyone pay you for anything? You start in this thread bashing Joystiq and then say they're entitled to their own opinions like you didn't say anything prior? If you don't like what Joystiq has to say, why are you still here? Do you feel you have to police the bloggers here by "keeping them in check"?

Nice try. You can shove the "life lessons" you've given.

Hands-on pics of the Xbox 360 QWERTY keyboard

Oh Neal, your ignorance can almost match the hate you have for Microsoft.

Messaging is free on Xbox Live. Maybe you should try things before bashing it.

I bet you'd bash sex and think it's overrated compared to your hand.

Knights of the Nine screens, availability update

Nov 22nd 2006 7:09PM (Joystiq)
"My friend is really into Oblivion, but has no live connection, so any info on a physical disc for Knights of the Nine would be appreciated. Thanks."

AKA, I hacked my firmware to play pirated games and I don't want my box to get bricked by the updates.

False Alarm: GameCube Zelda:TP won't be at retail in US either [update 2]

Oct 19th 2006 4:59PM (Joystiq)
It's also a way to cut out the middle-men retailers/distributors... I think their pure-profit model is going a little to their heads.

This is gonna tick off the brick and mortar stores, even though there's really not anything they can do about it, except turn the other cheek and say "Give me more Wii, please."

Wait... that doesn't sound right...

PS3 bitten by Yellow Dog Linux

Oct 17th 2006 4:15PM (Joystiq)
It's one thing to bring an OS to a system, it's another to provide libraries to program on it. Sony may "encourage" homebrew, but they won't completely support it unless they can control it and charge for it. Read: charges on (most likely very limited) access Cell and the RSX chips' abilities. Remember that Sony is the king of the word 'proprietary.'

Sony: Blu-Ray on PS3 has "nothing to do with movies"

Oct 17th 2006 12:33PM (Joystiq)
@1 How so? Phil's just due for the occasional foot-in-mouth comments that Sony heads must do.

I don't know what to think of his comments, though. Is he expressing a lack of confidence in the mainstream acceptance of the format? Or is he pushing the fact that Blu-Ray enables devs to not bother with compression as much?

Analyst: Xbox 360 sales solid but "lackluster"

Oct 17th 2006 2:01AM (Joystiq)
The thing about this next-gen race is that EVERYONE is in a wait-and-see mode: consumers, devs, even the console makers.

There was so much great content in the previous gen, but it didn't come until later. Plus, the PS2 and XBOX served as people's DVD players, media extenders, etc. So why would mainstream consumers want to spend $300 to $500 when they already have a game console that doubles up as a DVD player? And remember, most people don't give a damn about HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

Heck, Apple is one of the biggest backers of Blu-Ray and they haven't even put it in their computers, especially since mainstreamers are gobbling up their products. No mention in their ads either.

Why would someone buy a $30 copy of a movie while they can find it for $15 on olDVD? Why would they buy a console that doesn't play DVD movies, as well? (Sorry, had to take shots at everyone... this is about a CONSOLE war after all)

Anyways, the 360's sales are "lack luster" because of that reluctance to invest in something one does not really need or have the want to need. Believe it or not, gamers aren't the only consumers in the world.

Gears demo is coming ... but will it cost you? [update 1]

Oct 16th 2006 7:10PM (Joystiq)
That image is a header for the intro page "Content Downloads in Xbox Live Marketplace" so, don't get your panties in a bunch. If you look at those gamer pics below the Gears of War Demo image, those are free pics that come with the 360 HDD, not content to be purchased.

It was just poor judgement on whoever maintains the UK Xbox.com page to put the MSP image next to something that says "Gears of War Demo" or even putting it in that header at all. Geez, we /know/ we have to pay for some of the dumbest, arbitrary content on Live. No need to remind us about it.

I don't think they will charge for the Gears of War Demo. If they do, it's up to Epic anyways, not MS. And if it's true, you'll hear everyone cry for CliffyB's metro blood.

IGN says the PS3 controller is poopsky

Oct 16th 2006 6:57PM (Joystiq)
Although I may not agree with IGN most times, I have to oblige this time. I, along with other press that got early access to E3, got to play with the PS3 controller and the people around me also concurred that it's hard to get used to the (lack of) weight of the controller and the discomfort it caused.

After being accustomed to the DualShock, the SIXAXIS feels like it's a step back to the original PS1 controller.

Now that they have the motion sensing, I wish they had stuck with the boomerang controller because I bet once this baby releases, some complaints will be about the classic controller design with new functionality, which doesn't always fly. New functionality should be tied to new design in order for customers to get easier accustomed to a new product. Look at the 360 Wireless and Wii controllers.
