Jul 7th 2007 12:40AM (Joystiq)Second, in regards to the people who say that the elite has a lower failure rate than normal 360's that can probably be linked to the fact that people who buy a elite are more likely to be the sort of people who read gaming blogs, and post on gaming forms, as opposed to people who buy normal 360's who might not, and therefore when they have no problems with it they don't go out and tell anyone.
And finally to the poster who said that companies can't afford to make products with 15-25% failure rates, if you read Consumer Reports, you will see for many major appliances have failure rates similar to those, and in the current issue, one maker of gas ranges (Viking) actually has that fabled 33% repair rate (followed by KitchenAid at 20, and Amana at 19).
All that's to say that I think Microsoft did a good thing here by extending the warranty, and don't see how getting something for free, or actually getting your money back is bad (well, other than for Microsoft stockholders, who might see the price dip a little).
And to those people who say they won't buy a 360 until it is fixed, if you get one now, even if you have to send it in 10 times you will still have more time with it than if you waited a year before you were convinced, and got it then.
