Social Bicycles bike sharing system powered by iPhone app to hit NYC this fall

What's up with those ridiculous "bullhorns." As a bicycle frame builder and avid cyclist, I don't see how those bars with the downturned ends offer any advantage or benefit.

China renews Google's license to host

I wonder if they're serving Faygo at the Googleplex in honor of this momentous occasion.

Acoustic Research doles out ARNC01 noise-canceling earbuds

I liked AR better when they made actual audiophile grade products (AR-3, AR-91, AR-XA). These new AR products are totally cheesy, and a far cry from the great products Henry Kloss had pioneered during the early days of the brand.

Motorola prepping "last stand" 8 megapixel phone?

I don't agree with that. I loved my first edition RAZR, for the time, its design, size and build were pretty impressive. The two issues I had with the RAZR were relatively minor; freezing due to massive amounts of saved text messages and the microphone died after over a year and a half of use. Now I have an LG eNV and it's totally the opposite. I love the functionality, but the phone is huge and bulky. I've also had more problems in the first three months of owning it than in the two years I owned my RAZR. I'm currently on my third replacement for the eNV, and I am pretty gentle with my gadgets. Somedays, I wish I still had my RAZR.

PS3 Grand Theft Auto IV is 640p, nobody cares

I'm surprised so many people have all this free time to argue about the native resolution of a video game. Between work, school, and other obligations I have, I barely have enough time to sit down and play one, let alone argue about which version may be better.

Adam Carolla's audition drive for Top Gear (not really)

Apr 24th 2008 10:21AM (Autoblog)
I think part of the reason why many americans like the BBC version of Top Gear is because it shows us the cars we wish we owned, while making fun of the cars many of us do own. For me, I would prefer that they didn't make a version of Top Gear for NBC. The NBC version would undoubtedly be an advertisement for the Big Three, and we already have enough shows that cater to that audience. (Overhaulin', MuscleCar, etc) As far as I am concerned, we do have good automotive programming to cater to our domestic market. While Clarkson certainly has his biases, he does manage to review a variety of vehicles, albeit with a critical lens.

My reservations stem from the fact that I'm afraid we won't see all the exotics of the BBC version, nor will we see the absurd challenges. Top Gear succeeds because it is so over the top. Fifth Gear is more down to earth, and caters to a slightly different demographic, but as the press continues to hype up the NBC version, I led to believe that "Gear" will be "below sea level."

Limited Edition Joy Division Zune makes us dance, dance, dance to the radio

Apr 18th 2008 9:48AM (Engadget)
I'm not going to lie, I really want this. As a long time mac user, and owner of a U2 Edition iPod Photo (I don't really like U2, but I like the red scroll wheel), I would prefer to replace my iPod with a Zune, specifically a Joy Division Zune.

All of my friends think I am crazy for feeling this way; I was among the first of my friends to get an iPod, but I've used the Zune outside of stores and I really prefer the interface to that of the 6G iPods.

Now, I'm not saying I prefer the interface of the Zune to the iPod Touch. I would rather have an iPod Touch more than anything, but I feel that the Zune is an excellent quality player, burdened by mediocre software. (But so is the iPod, I stopped liking iTunes after they removed internet library sharing)

Limited Edition Joy Division Zune makes us dance, dance, dance to the radio

Apr 18th 2008 9:25AM (Engadget)
If you really want to dissect this, Joy Division falls into the category of post-punk, as they were founded on the heels of the punk movement. Joy Division is often considered to be one of the earliest pioneers of the post-punk movement, as they were directly influence by punk, but took a decidedly more experimental route. Post-punk laid the groundwork for alternative, industrial, gothic and indie; all of which fall underneath the great umbrella of rock.

I'm not trying to be an elitist, I'm just saying that's how many critics and listeners classify Joy Division.

iPhone display "bubbles" causing toil and trouble?

Feb 13th 2008 8:07AM (Engadget)
I wish the geniuses at the Apple Store were that nice when I brought my 12" PowerBook in three times for 21 pixels that wouldn't turn completely black and four 15" PB-like white spots. (they recalled 15" PowerBook models with the same white spot issue) This was within the first four months of ownership, and the Geniuses said that the issue was not significant enough for a warranty repair. But everyone who uses my PowerBook asks "what's up with your screen?" So much for Apple Care.

Chrysler supposedly in talks with M&M to sell Jeep brand

Feb 11th 2008 9:24PM (Autoblog)
M&M actually used to build their own Jeeps under license from Kaiser and AMC, so it seems plausible. However, I think Jeep should dump the Liberty, Compass and Patriot and go at it alone. They need to make a new Cherokee, in the same spirit that they built the new Wrangler. That's all, no more non trail rated SUVs, or badge engineered Nitros. Pure Jeeps.
