Mario Kart Wii bundle loses GameCube support, just in time for the holidays

Nov 15th 2011 3:08AM (Joystiq)
@tendoboy1984 - It doesn't support all control methods, however, as it lacks GameCube controller support, which *is* an option in many Wii games.

Skyrim is getting a day one patch, more DLC than you can shake a giant sword at

Nov 8th 2011 11:49PM (Joystiq)
And this is why having a physical release of a game like this won't mean shit in ten years when it's impossible to patch the console versions. This isn't surprising at all, though, coming from Bethesda.

Playdead boss says retail model is 'broken,' awaits digital revolution

I believe that game distribution is a bit backwards right now. There *should* be a shift towards digital distribution, to be honest, but not as a complete replacement for physical media. Think of it this way: Right now, you buy a physical disc and take it home, and you're usually immediately prompted to install an update. You might even have DLC available. As weeks pass, more patches and more DLC is available.

What good is that disc going to be on its own in ten years, assuming that these distribution channels are shut down?

In my opinion, games should be distributed digitally at first. Once patching has ceased, however, discs should be distributed to people who want them, albeit at an extra cost. This isn't so much to gouge people who want discs as it is to save people who don't want discs a bit of money. Let's say that you save $10 if you go digital-only. If you want a game that you can actually play straight from the disc in ten years, though, then you'll probably spring for the disc version.

That wouldn't work for people without Internet, of course. For those people, I'd propose that companies allow customers to send their original discs in and receive updated discs (final only) in return. The updated discs, of course, should have a slightly different appearance from the original discs.

GameStop selling specialized Android tablets at 200 U.S. stores right now

@Mustang Fanboy - I'd hold out for the Windows 8 tablets, personally. Why limit yourself in terms of connectivity with existing tablets when Windows 8 tablets will more or less be full-blown computers in terms of functionality?

Nintendo looking to develop 'new genres' again

@Dickhole Pasta - He's referring to this part:

"...and they come out here and their."

Still, yeah, he could've been nicer about it.

Can we expect a revised wheel to accommodate the slide pad add-on? XD

The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Astroman

I bought this a long time ago. Great game, although I'll definitely agree about it being too difficult, although that's more so because I had no idea where to go after a while.

Halo Anniversary adding 'Analyze Mode' with Kinect [update]

Oct 16th 2011 10:35AM (Joystiq)
@BLipp18 - This is why I don't understand the significance of voice commands via Kinect. Sure, it's nice to be able to use voice commands without a controller with something like Netflix, but I don't see how it's such an inconvenience to use a headset (or a controller attachment, in the case of Dreamcast or Xbox) to allow the same functionality. Making these features Kinect-only is just bizarre, especially given the fact that nearly every Xbox 360 in existence has a wired headset packed in with it.

MDK 2 HD finally coming to PC ... tomorrow

Oct 11th 2011 7:50PM (Joystiq)
I'll be waiting until they finally cave and release this on Steam (or OnLive). Surely they wouldn't be so foolish as to limit this to a single digital distribution platform forever.
