No failure to launch: Aussies love the Xbox 360

Mar 31st 2006 3:26AM (Joystiq)
You're absolutely right Australian gamers are just a bunch of idiots fooled by the media, advertising and sequel hungry. Here is a list of the top selling games in Aus just to give you an idea:

1. Ps2 - Black
2. Xbox - Black
3. Ps2 - V8 Supercars 3
4. Ps2 - Fifa Street 2
5. Xbx - Doom 3 (Collector's Ed)
6. Ps2 - Need For Speed Most Wanted
7. Xbx - V8 Supercars 3
8. Ps2 - Buzz! the Music Quiz
9. Psp - Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories

Not very far behind are Singstar games, Eye Toy, World Championship Poker, True Crime New York City, etc. I work at a games store here and few people actually buy decent and original games. Rugby League 2 (mediocre game at best and a clone of its prequel) sold a lot better than Resident Evil 4. Makes me sad really, but these are mostly casual gamers and if the majority of gamers are like these, I can see another crash in the industry really soon for the lack of original and innovative games in favour of sequels, mediocre sports licenses and GTA clones.

Surely I can see a lot of people here rejecting the Revolution as they will automatically see nintendo as "kiddy" and keep playing their V8 Supercars 5 on their beefed up graphical powerhouse 360 or PS3.

Australian gamers (if they can be called gamers) are the worst of the bunch in my opinion, I live here but I have a brain and buy games that I know will be good instead of more sequels and mediocre sport titles. But I am just one person.

Apple's iGame is totally iFake

Mar 10th 2006 5:57AM (Joystiq)
I don't think it would be such a bad idea for Apple to release a portable gaming device though. If Apple released a handheld game system then the games would most likely be available for download through the use of a program similar to iTunes for a reasonable price (a lot cheaper than DS or PSP games), making it easier and more affordable for users to acquire games. Of course this would create a lot of piracy since illegal downloads would eventually surface, but I believe this would create a good revenue for Apple and by applying some sort of security measure which could stop or at least reduce piracy such as allowing users to download games only through Apple software or something like that.

Well, it doesn't seem like this is happening any time soon but it's nice to speculate.
