PGR4 features eco-friendly race mode

Sep 18th 2007 6:44PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Those "gigantic pollution machines called power plants" are vastly more efficient than those puny pollution machines we call car engines. Also, consolidating the pollution at a few points (rather than million upon million of cars) makes dealing with it much easier, either through the use of more aggressive emission retention mechanisms or by migrating to more environmentally-friendly methods of production. Don't forget that having a single source of power for everything from lightbulbs to cars would allow for more investment into power-delivery infrastructure, and that even if we pollute about the same when using coal power plants (I see some momentum towards nuclear, but some people are still unreasonably afraid of meltdowns), we'll still be able to produce all our energy from domestic sources, something that cannot be said about oil.

The one thing I'm worried about is whether or not the Tesla will actually be able to match a gas-guzzler in top speed, it wouldnt really be a fair race if the Tesla tops out at 100-120ish MPH.

UK to get Halo 3 Xbox 360 for 279 GBP

I wonder if these will be 65nm parts exclusively, it would ceirtainly make sense to start with a relatively low volume part, and it would be a compelling reason to buy one, even with the price premium (then again, that horrible color is a reason to NOT buy one).

From what I've read (here: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=41889) it looks like 65nm parts should be taking over relatively fast. I'm guessing the Zephyr (90nm + HDMI) parts are only out there to help MS to deplete the supply of 90nm parts (or if Chartered/TSMC haven't able to ramp up 65nm production fast enough).

Peter Moore resigns from Microsoft, replaced by Don Mattrick [update 1]

I would guess that someone had to take the fall for the $1.1B charge that MS had to take due to the defective Xbox360 fiasco. His new job is hardly a promotion and it allows Microsoft to tell stockholders that there will be a new direction in the Entertainment and Devices Division. It's a shame, though, since I found his new open attitude quite likable.

A smaller, cooler Falcon should be soaring this Fall

Meh, here I was thinking that I was one of the first to hear the price drop rumors and I scroll down and see that there was a posting about it WAY before I learned of it, lol.

As far as I know, there will be a price drop during the fall
as well,
$399 Elite, $350 Premium and $249 for Core. Nice price on the core
but I kind of wish the price on the premium was a bit lower ($300 for
a premium would be just great). 65nm parts will do wonders to power
consumption, so we may even see a smaller power supply which would
also lower costs nicely (a 30-50% power draw reduction is completely
possible, maybe even more depending on the tweaks thrown into the
process).
