Teclast kicks out sleek C260 do-it-all for Chinese market

Dec 27th 2006 3:02PM (Engadget)
How is it that some chinese ripoff stuff gets the "keepin' it real fake" treatment while other stuff doesn't?

Many Wii online functions not ready for launch [update 1]

Guys, be realistic. Nobody really gives a shit about these features. They won't take the place of the computer you're using to comment with right now.

Many Wii online functions not ready for launch [update 1]

Big deal. It's news and weather.

Adding these things along the way will just make it seem like little bonuses you get throughout the first bit your Wii ownership.

There's no way Zangief could afford a place in Williamsburg with a job like that. Totally unrealistic story.

Being a die-hard Etymotic fan makes laying my eyes on these things that much worse.

Warner Music preps iTunes compatible "DVD album"

Aug 4th 2006 8:17PM (Engadget)
Actually, Apple doesn't do much (if any) iTunes encoding in-house. Any label or distro who wants Apple to sell their material must use iTunes Producer, which rips, encodes, and FTPs the CD to their ingestion stage. (Without DRM - this happens at the point of sale)

For older albums issued under this plan, Apple simply has to pull material from their storage systems and send it over for pressing.

Nintendo fesses up to DS Lite hinge defect, will fix for free

@ #1:

Wow, I'm really impressed that they are servicing your imported unit, which technically isn't even under warranty here in the states. Either that support person just doesn't know any better, or Nintendo's policies rule.

Yahoo! offering up an unrestricted $1.99 MP3 download

This is a hilarious situation, seeing as how eMusic sells DRM-free MP3s for 25 cents each.

Syntax-Brillian announces three new series of Olevia LCD TVs

Jul 20th 2006 9:32AM (Engadget)
These specs don't sound any different from previous models - I doubt much has changed.

However, the sets are very nice for what you pay - My LT26HVX was 500 shipped from Amazon (without any rebates, mind you) and it falls just short of sets costing twice as much. It has an LG display panel and performs pretty well.

But yeah, I've read both good and bad things about customer service - depends on your luck. That's the risk you take when you pay half price, I guess.

They might not jump out of you while browsing the TV section at Best Buy, but Syntax holds more of the US HDTV market than you think.
