@ctplante can't reply to your post directly for some reason (and it's not showing up here?), but you have to select "continue cup" if you want to continue from the first event of the zone in the cup that you're up to. If you don't select continue cup, you won't continue.

pretty sure the game saves after each zone in an event, making the first point invalid

new hardware = new features. Not exactly a screw over.
