TERAblah shows off Castanic armor gallery
Jun 3rd 2010 12:49PM (Massively)Body shame is learned, it's not instinct.
Artistically the armor looks interesting. One of those shots looks awkwardly naked in the bottom region, but most of it is Deviant Art style ribbon armor and looks fancy and well executed.
When science gives every couch potato a six pack and anti gravity bosoms we'll start moving toward a culture without the love-hate relationship we have with Hot.
Bill Roper no longer executive producer of Champions Online, game improvements promised
Mar 17th 2010 12:09PM (Massively)I'm not astroturfing. When Hellgate didn't come out like it should have, a part of me died because that game was practically made for me. I can't look forward to new games with wholehearted optimism ever again.
But Roper himself does not deserve all this vitriol. You guys are acting just as bad as people on 4chan who blame everything on colored folk because it's somehow become socially acceptable and funny as shouting about beer on those boards.
Did you ever read the interview with Bill Roper post Flagship? The man is like you and me. He's a trufan that had demonstrable skills and opportunity to make the games most of us can only bitch about wanting on forums or with our friends. In our own minds WE CAN ALL DO IT BETTER than the people who actually DO IT. This doesn't make it true. We're all egoists when it comes to these things. Bringing those ideas from the mental simulation space, translated through language and then re-interpreted by dozens of coworkers in a development team is where imperfections arise and they are unavoidable.
The only metric by which Roper should be judged is if he helped Cryptic avoid making the same mistakes from a fiscal/managerial side as Flagship. That's hard-bought knowledge and he is forever valuable to any company because he has it.
Give the man a break instead of making him Pariah just because power X doesn't work exactly as it would if you were in charge.
The importance of good audio in an MMO
Jun 15th 2009 12:59PM (Massively)The Daily Grind: Is an MMO's origin important to you?
Jun 7th 2009 9:18AM (Massively)Asian MMOS are always suckfest clone games with 1 interesting feature.
Their gamer culture has trained it's players to want to play 200 versions of Lineage for 1 month at a lan cafe then move on to somebody else's game that looks and plays exactly like the one they already game with, but has one clever feature to differentiate it.
They also all have low low system requirements and tiny installs since the makers know the user will play this for a month in a cafe before moving on. KMMOs don't build for the long haul.
Wanna know how this thinking translates to the west? NCsoft does a study, concludes the average gamer plays the same mmo for 3 months then moves to another.
The Daily Grind: Are you excited by the Aion beta?
Jun 4th 2009 9:37AM (Massively)It will tank hard in the west. NCsoft doesn't know how to appeal to anyone in the West other than weeaboos and the gold farmers that prey on them.
It's every KMMO you've ever played, with a wings gimmick.
Official Ulduar cinematic revealed
Apr 13th 2009 11:05PM (WoW)It's a good face, you're just not used to it yet. Dont confuse the shock of seeing something new and the feeling that comes with sudden change with dislike. Once you're used to Jaina having unpixelated eyebrows, it'll feel the norm, not the shock.
And yes, GOD ALMIGHTY I have hated playing Horde through northrend after leveling to 80 on Alliance side first.
Alliance npcs treat you like a hero and accord you great respect for your previous deeds. You do heroic things right from the get-go as Alliance. As Horde, all the NPCs are jackasses threatening to cut you in half for merely standing in their presence, and most of what you do is outright villainy. Horde not the evil faction? Hell no, in Northrend the Horde are worse than the Scourge sometimes. Only Saurfang brings the cool to horde. He is amazing.
Hated it when Saurfang wasnt in the picture. Go Varian, I hope he takes Garrosh's goddamn head off someday.
Season 6 weapons as good as Ulduar drops
Feb 9th 2009 8:25AM (WoW)Do they not understand that if the PVP gear is as accessible as PVE gear and just as good or close, then people will PVE in PVP gear JUST LIKE BURNING CRUSADE?
Christ, you can grind for pvp gear dawn to dusk every day with nothing but a right click on an npc. You dont need to corral 25 stray cats whilst spending hundreds of gold in consumable and repairs, and you can only do it once a week!
PVP gear is always going to be easier to get as a result of this!
Fuck blizzard's anti-logic! Fuck PVPers!
Is Blizzard cutting costs?
Jan 27th 2009 5:10PM (WoW)People need something to keep them looking at the horizon. The chase is better than the catch, and even people who never see sunwell, are thinking about it. My guild is about to break up because of the lack of anything to keep the officers looking to the horizon, as it were.
He's also right that hardcores can bring in players, but casuals not so much. Look at EU magtheridon server for the effect of Star Power on a server's population. Hardcores are your evangelists. They will go out and sell your game for you. Casuals just pay their dues, play their three hours a month, and move on when the next shiny comes around.
Further, Casuals are a heavily catered to market. Everyone and their mother has made or is making a casual-geared mmo-social game of some kind. Maybe casuals are a big pond to fish from, but there are a lot more fishermen.
Mia Rose interview with Allakhazam
Jan 22nd 2009 1:46AM (WoW)That she does porn is only relevant in that she breaks the female gamer stereotype, and that is refreshing in itself.
Porn itself isn't a big deal anyways, in fact I think people who can be successful in pornography are brilliant. Think on it for a moment, you're being paid to do something you would be doing anyways. Or to put it in other terms, imagine if you could be paid to sleep or breathe. Or to post trollish comments on wowinsider. Same thing, just a little more naked.
The great wowhead top got a chuckle out of me.
WoW, Casually: 7 reasons to make a Death Knight
Dec 6th 2008 5:12PM (WoW)The OPness peters off somewhere around level 73-76. If by that point you think a DK is op, even a well played DK, then you ought to check out what Hunters or Paladins can do at the same level just to refresh your basis of comparison.
