My Colonoscopy

Jun 14th 2007 1:55PM (Blog Maverick)
I'm 37 and got one of these exams because of the insight of a doctor I saw. Good thing I did, because they removed a sizable (but benign) polyp which is the kind that could possibly get cancerous in a few years. Now I'm set for this exam each 3 years.

So, yes, like he said, do it.

Why the NBC/Newscorp Video Venture is a Great Idea

Mar 22nd 2007 6:32PM (Blog Maverick)
From what I understood, this venture will be US-only at first. I expect it will be like that for a long while.

As I live in Canada, I feel one of the problem this industry is facing on the Internet is their licensing approach across the world. Hollywood has always segmented their releases dates across regions and also deal with multiple partners and different legislations in some countries.

Since Internet broadcasting is usually not subjected to the same restrictions that television broadcasting is, pure Internet ventures do not subject their users to regional restriction headaches.

I feel this industry needs to change concerning regional restrictions, but since they have to deal with their current partners of the older distribution economy (broadcasting, DVDs, theaters). I don't think it will happen any time soon.

When they'll make their content globally available for everyone, then they'll stop being dinosaurs and be up to page with the new economy.

Here's an example of how their Internet activities are disconnected with the reality. It happens that in Canada, we can subscribe through cable to many US channels. So, we watch series on these channels. Then, they advertise additional content on the Web (i.e.: alternate ending, mini-episodes, etc.). Then, we go to play this content on the Web and their geo-IP filters tell us: "Content restricted to US residents". How cool is that? We are paying them. They show us publicity that we watch. How much more do they need from us so we get the same thing in return?

DRM: the state of disrepair

Bronfman's kids probably cannot be sued by the RIAA because they probably still live in Canada.

Submit (questions) to the 360 Fancast!

Well I want to know the following:
- when will Canada get XBLM movies and TV downloads?
- when is Gyruss to be released on XBLA. It kindda fell of the radar.

Hands on with 360 IPTV

Jan 11th 2007 5:21PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Hell yes!

I'm in Montreal, Canada and I would gladly ditch Videotron's average Illico service for a IPTV service.

My sources at Bell Canada tell me there are good chances they should offer an IPTV service before the end of 2007.

They've been testing IPTV for a while. The first test phase with consumers did not go too well because of problems with the client machines.

I know they have been testing Microsoft IPTV's infrastructure. Rumors are that the platform isn't chosen yet and will be done being closed doors by upper management.

Let's hope they'll choose Microsoft IPTV. Since they already do some XBox 360 co-branding for their Sympatico ASDL service, one can only hope.

XBLA, Contra and Gyruss coming "soon"

Ah! Can't wait for Gyruss. I used to be able to go to Earth a couple of times in a single game. I wonder if I still got the zone.

PS3 "Exclusive" plays on 360

Aug 29th 2006 2:01PM (Joystiq Xbox)
This picture doesn't prove anything.

BUT, two weeks ago, I saw a job posting in Montreal from Ubisoft that specifically talked about working on the Assassin's Creed project. The job description basically talked about working on the engine and porting code to the PS3, among other things.

It did not say if it was code from the 360, but it made me think they are quite late behind in development for the PS3.

I doubt it will release in March.

Seagate Leaves me bloody...

Aug 11th 2006 1:52PM (Blog Maverick)
Mark, you made me think of something. Next time I a product in such packaging, I'll ask the store to open it for me before going out. Since the packaging is for their benefit, it is the least they could do.

As I speak French, here is a precision:

point 1: "...who each have their own personality and they will be able to communicate between each other to establish tactical strategies."
