Bungie explains 'series of stumbles' in ODST marketing

Dec 8th 2009 4:18PM (Joystiq)
Even the stuff that went "right" for Bungie--stuff they had control over--was bad.

Remember the Superintendent "Keep it clean" teaser campaign that lasted for months? The Superintendent was such a small part of the ODST game, it just didn't track. Just hype.

And Bungie's constant teasing of everything they do--that's in their control as well, and they keep on doin' it...

So, Bungie, to make up for all the botched marketing you and MS have done, can you stop teasing the games and start treating your fans like adults?

"Only time will tell."

Study scrutinizes shooters for violations of war crime laws

"Not for the moral implications of killing dozens and dozens of innocent people, mind you -- but because it was against the rules."

Joystiq bloggers seem to reach new levels of bitchiness with every new post...

What you said, idiot, is one in the same...

This site is bullshit.

First Drive: 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander GT is a CUV we can live with

Jonny L.

That was one excellent review, very well-written. Focused on information, but funny, humble and relatively cliche-free. (Shot across the bow... the only one that stood out.)

I particularly liked how you avoided the "Mustang, anyone?"--going with a simpler phrase.

I take back what I said about you being a writing disciple of that pugilistic friend of yours ;)

The Truth About Cars founder Robert Farago leaves the building

Nov 18th 2009 1:24PM (Autoblog)
That a Farago ally--ex "TTAC" writer--wrote this blog post is hilarious.

Number one, Lieberman already covered this "news" on Autoblog. So, how about getting someone unbiased to write this "and his second foot.... now out the door" post, if even necessary. The framing of the story would probably be a bit less sentimental.

Getting Edmunds to add a disclaimer at the end of their reviews? Wow, what a thing to be remembered for. Almost makes Nader's seat-belt thing seem pitiful. And he only had to raze the entire auto industry every day on his web site--making enemies with everyone who wouldn't surrender to his ego-cult--to get Edmunds to run that one line.

If Farago has any legacy at all simply proves the power of negativity on the internet. A certain minority of people will click on any web town crier who spouts angry half-truths.

Unfortunately, his true legacy is the pompous over-writing that passes as literature on his old site, a bad habit that disciple Jonny Lieberman would do best to steer clear of.

Please, no more Farago coverage. I stay away from "TTAC" for a reason.

Madden NFL Arcade rushes towards early Thanksgiving release

"EA Sports... it's in the game..."

That force-fed in-game advert--for a game you just bought--is like a head on a pike, warding off all who would enter.

Rumor: First screens, details for Halo Reach leaked

Nov 5th 2009 7:17PM (Joystiq)
joystiq has reported a few bogus things in the past as fact, so skepticism sure...

in this case, if you look at the set of screens this guy has released, you'd come to suspect they're genuine. so maybe, in this case, your skepticism is just bein' stubborn.

Infinity Ward's fourzerotwo thinks devs should 'take control' of marketing

Oct 26th 2009 6:45PM (Joystiq)
Agreed. No question, devs should be given a lot of power to make the game it needs to make. But no one company can do it all. Pretty soon he's going to say devs should be able to cut their own hair and perform their own surgeries.
