Square Enix CEO: We're 'going to explore the possibility' of Final Fantasy VII remake

Mar 23rd 2010 10:16AM (Joystiq)
I'm hoping they don't do a remake. The old graphics system allowed me to pretend that Cloud Strife wasn't a sissy-whiny-girl-boy, whereas a remake would most certainly destroy that possibility.

Best Buy sued for violating its Price Match policy on purpose

If Best Buy is so terrible, why are all the people on this thread wanting to buy products from them via a pricematch? Quit being morons.

But you're allowed to comment on Mike and Mike as radio talkers, despite the fact that you (presumably) have never been the host of a nationally syndicated radio show?

HBO and New Line follow Warner into the Blu

Jan 10th 2008 1:03PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I've been trying to convince myself otherwise for a while, but Warner Bros. decision to go Blu was the end of HD-DVD. I bought the HD-DVD add-on last Spring, but only bought a few movies, partly because I'm not a huge movie collector, and partly because a lot of the movies that I really coveted in HD were only on Blu-Ray. At the end of the day, I'm glad that the war is over, even though a lot of problems could have been solved if either side wasn't so greedy.

And therein lies the problem. Sony has a debacle on its hands with the colossal failure that the PS3 has been so far. That failure has been saved by the emergence of Blu-Ray, but Sony is going to be desperate to cover its losses on the PS3, and the costs of ensuring studio exclusivity. Now that they will have a monopoly on HD-M disc content, I expect them to keep prices very high, which is bad for the consumer.

Give Sony credit. Once they knew that the PS3 was doomed as an ultra-expensive video game console that *also* played HD movies, they made a quick change and turned it into a Blu-Ray player that *also* plays games. And that has been so successful that now Sony is going to stop selling PS3s with backwards compatibility in Japan, focusing solely on the 40GB SKU.

But monopolies are terrible for the consumer, particularly if that monopoly is held by a company that has been hemorhagging money for the last 2 years. Instead of more $99 HD-M players coming soon, expect to spend the whole of 2008 with Blu-Ray players above $299. Which sucks.

But I love my little HD-DVD add-on, and while there won't be a lot of new content coming for it, I'll still be able to enjoy the HD-DVDs that I have as long as my 360 is hooked up. And I expect that to be a long time.

Just how scarce is Rock Band?

All that being said, they are selling out at Sam's Club, where members can pick it up for $150.
