Patch coming for Assassin's Creed freezing problems

Nov 25th 2007 1:44PM (Joystiq Playstation)
For those complaining about the PS3 version's framerate issues: be aware that the 360 version displays the exact same framerate and tearing issues.

For everyone else: just be happy console games have progressed to a point where bug fixes can actually happen. If this had been a PS2 release we'd simply have to suck up and deal with the bug.

PSP Fanboy review: Silent Hill Origins

Nov 24th 2007 1:06AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Personally, I thought the game was excellent. I'm a huge fan of the mythology established by Silent Hill 1 and 3 and this was an excellent addition to that storyline. In light of people's reaction to Silent Hill 4, I don't feel it's entirely fair to dock Origins points for not being a radical departure from the original's formula. Overall, it nailed everything that makes a Silent Hill game what it is, with some of the most impressive visuals and lighting effects on the PSP to date.

There is one quote from the review I'd like to focus on:

"Portable gaming is meant to be pick-up-and-go, but Silent Hill Origins demands you to get sucked into the game. This is tough to do outside of laying in bed at night. "

Look at it this way: Silent Hill Origins is the perfect demonstration for the PSP's TV Out feature. My wife is a huge survival horror fan and the two of us had a blast playing this game on the big screen over a series of evenings. (With the lights out, of course.)

My own score: 9/10 It delivers what it promises and provides yet another quality addition to the PSP's library representing a staple PlayStation series.

Ratchet and Clank doesn't break 100K, Sony still happy

Nov 21st 2007 12:29PM (Joystiq Playstation)
@19:

The PS2 had an install base of 120 million - yet no GTA title sold more than 15 million (if memory serves).

And for what its worth, the PS3 and PSP are both currently outselling the Wii in Japan.

This race is far from over. And 360 fans who are already declaring themselves the victor are in for a real surprise. Nintendo and Sony are both going to be serious competition this gen.

Star Tribune: DS is easy to pick over the PSP

Nov 20th 2007 6:34PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Fuck it...

The ignorance that is already displayed in this thread coupled with the ignorance that will no doubt be on display should be making the folks at Joystiq ashamed of themselves for ever posting this drivel.

Star Tribune: DS is easy to pick over the PSP

Nov 20th 2007 6:07PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Wow. It's n wonder so many people think the gaming media is in a total shambles. I've seen less flamebait-worthy topics on GameFAQs.

I'll say this about the DS and PSP: anyone who thinks that one is clearly better than the other is a fucking moron.

The two systems compliment each other perfectly. The DS may be great, but I think the fanboys who write for this site (and those who read it) tend to get so swept up in sales figures that they lose sight of the fact that the DS is far from perfect.

Haze release gets cloudy, pushed to next year

I thought Haze's exclusivity was beyond the quotation marks phase.

The not-so-cheap way of playing Time Crisis

Is the GunCon 3 wireless? I've been waiting and waiting for Namco to finally release a wireless GunCon so I can stop screwing with plugs behind my setup.

Contact Harvest debuts on Bestseller List

Nov 19th 2007 5:48PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Not content to simply lay waste to the console gaming world with its PC-ification, Microsoft seems hell bent on ruining a small portion of the literary world as well.

Here's a free recommendation guys, go pick up a copy of Farenheit 451 or a Canticle for Leibowitz if you want to see what real sci-fi is like...

There's more to it than the generic, neon-drenched carp that the Halos and Mass Effects of the world would have you believe.

Pulp games beget pulp fiction.

Metareview: Mass Effect (Xbox 360)

Nov 19th 2007 4:55PM (Joystiq)
1. The campaign is longer than five hours, but that's beside the point.

2. Since when did a Devil May Cry-esque hack 'n slash title ever need online implementation? It's no wonder an unreliable piece of shit like the 360 is on top, there are legions of ADD riddled Western gamers out there who are convinced that replayability and on-line multiplayer are one and the same. Now they finally have a Western-made system that caters to the need of constantly trading up on an endless chain of throwaway titles. Sure Call of Duty 4 is great today, but in ten years time will anyone still be playing it? I can thread up Zelda, Streets of Rage, or Metal Gear Solid and enjoy it just as much now as I did 10 or even 20 years ago. Now there's Mass Effect...I give it one maybe to years at best before some other faceless WRPG comes along and is crowned "OMG Teh greatest evah!!!11!!!1!"
