Gearbox and Claptrap honor late Borderlands fan with eulogy, NPC in sequel

Nov 5th 2011 3:52PM (Joystiq)
Fun fact: I bough Borderlands for the THIRD TIME last week. First bought it when it came out, turned it in to buy the GOTY, turned THAT in to buy Arkham City but I regretted it so I bought back the vanilla edition(since I already have the DLC stored on my PS3 account). And Borderlands 2 is my most awaited game period(well, Skyrim is, but I already pre-paid it, I just need to get it on Friday). And my favorite Half-Life game is Opposing Force.

I LOVE Gearbox, needless to say. And this is a HELL of a classy gesture for them. I love how Claptrap says that "one of our own has fallen", those are POWERFUL words. I was especially moved by it, since I'm a soldier, and those words will make any member of the armed forces choke up.

JASF looks downright pedestrian when compared to the awesomeness that is Ace Combat: Assault Horizon...

And for the record, I am going to sneak off work for an hour to get into Gamestop the moment it opens and get my copy or Arkham City. I didn't even preorder it, I PREPAID it, just waltz in and pick it up :)

Just another example of Japanese narrow-mindedness. I've said time and again how Japan's becoming a creative vacuum, and this unwillingness to cooperate with American/European companies is an excellent example of what's wrong with the Japanese gaming industry.

Bobby Kotick talks Guitar and DJ Hero, the fall and the coming rise

@Drakkenfyre
For real. Brutal Legend and Ghostbusters: The Video Game are perfect examples of how much "heart and soul" that leech Kotick has, not to mention a very nasty, vengeful streak. The guy is supremely suit-happy. Basically, if he throws something away, it's to rot. If someone else picks it up, he'll try to swat it off your hands because it's "his", even if he didn't want it anymore.

It's amazing how in just about two console generations, Kotick has made Activision take EA's place as the gaming world's incarnation of corporate greed.

Wait a second... Demon lord kidnaps hero's girlfriend... he goes into demon lord's realm to rescue her... has loads of projectile weapons at his disposal to do the job... My god, this game IS Ghouls 'N Ghosts!! (@_@)

Shadows of the Damned review: Hell and back

I think the main reason people go more for SOTD's attitude over Duke Nukem's is that the SOTD characters are exactly that: CHARACTERS. Duke Nukem, as much as I love him, is merely a player surrogate with not much motivation or depth. The characters in SOTD are much more fleshed out, have actual motivation and personality. And lo and behold, the main character has a sidekick and HE DOESN'T SUCK. in fact, Johnson is actually one of the highlights of the game, he's friggin' hilarious.

I bought the game a few hours ago, and I'm honestly having a blast with it. The soundtrack and sound design are the standard Yamaoka excellence, voice acting is perfectly badass and hilarious, gameplay is traditional but fun. It also has some very funny nods to the classics, too(the map screen between levels looks pulled straight out of Ghouls 'N Ghosts!).
