Shadows of the Damned review: Hell and back

Jun 21st 2011 9:57AM (Joystiq)
Thank goodness the game came out good. I had high hopes for it, considering all the superstar Japanese talent involved, not to mention they weren't shackled by Japanese gaming standards to make it(Japan is KILLING its industry and burying its creators). I'm dying to see Keiji Inafune make the jump across the pond and make some games with American support, too.

But no mention of the soundtrack? Akira Yamaoka made it, so it MUST be good, right?

Yakuza: Of the End out in Japan June 9, sales support Red Cross

Apr 7th 2011 11:26AM (Joystiq)
If anyone here is remotely involved in Sega in any way, tell them this: Yakuza is my favorite Sega franchise ever. I've bought every game at launch. I'd buy this game in a heartbeat. If its proceeds go into helping Japan, even moreso.

Shadows of the Damned preview: Goat toward the light

Mar 9th 2011 4:01PM (Joystiq)
The trailer kinda reminds me of a Robert Rodriguez flick, which is ALWAYS a plus in my book.

Not only an I excited as all hell for this game, I'm also excited about the possibilities of more Japanese developers making the move to the West. After that blasting conference by Keiji Inafune did(the one where he said the Japanese as a gaming force are dead), I was waiting to see which developers would make the jump, and so far it seems the move is for the better.

The thing is, when it comes to their gaming, the Japanese ARE kind of xenophobic, they just have their little bubble from which they don't come out, and Japanese designers can be stifled by pressure from above into making Japanese-flavored games because that's what sells over there. The Japanese are also very conservative, not really giving the chance to innovation in favor of formulaic games. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Japanese RPG scene, which hasn't had true innovation in Jeebus knows how long.

Anyway, definite day 1 purchase for me. Not only does the game look like a blast, I'm expecting that this trailer is kind of misleading and the story is deeper and darker than the game lets on. I wouldn't think Akira Yamaoka and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn would be involved otherwise.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow soundtrack nominated for 2 IFMCA awards

Feb 15th 2011 12:49PM (Joystiq)
So the most bland, most generic, least memorable soundtrack of the entire series wins awards while every single other game in the series, which is the very DEFINITION of awesome music, never won anything? Go blow a corpse, IFMCA.

Yakuza: Of the End video proves the game still holds surprises

Oct 18th 2010 4:47PM (Joystiq)
This looks like it might be even more over-the-top and fun than Dead Rising by a mile. And it's a neat concept, taking awesome characters and putting them in a game based on, but not part of, the main series. Yakuza is pretty much the only Sega franchise I still love, so this is a day 1 purchase for me if it gets released.

@John Z

Another anime franchise that NEEDS the Warriors treatment? Saint Seiya/Knights Of The Zodiac. EPIC.

Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage erupts on November 2

Oct 1st 2010 1:33AM (Joystiq)
YES!!! It was about F'ING TIME they gave this a release date!!

True story: There's so many Musou games that I was kinda intimidated at buying any of them, since, well, they're so many, but then the Warriors Orochi games came out, and, well, being an all-star game including the characters of both franchises, I decided yo give it a shot, and I enjoyed both of them immensely. The thing is, playing them, the first thing that came to my mind was "Damn, Fist Of The North Star would make an AWESOME Musou game...", so I registered online and commented about it to Koei.

Apparently, I wasn't the only one. And believe me, when they announced this game, I instantly declared this a Day 1 purchase. I have been waiting ALL YEAR for it, and if it didn't come out here, I would have imported the European version.
