Ahahahahahaha politics. Please. This won't go anywhere.

Five straight minutes of Ryu Hayabusa messing dudes up in Ninja Gaiden 3, right here

@jmr1986 The game always looks easy in the hands of a master. I want to see the video of the guy who hasn't played NG in 3 years try to figure out how not to die let alone kill everything effortlessly.

I'm up to that challenge. Can't wait!

Skyrim's PC fans are modding the crap out of it with Steam Workshop

@This Little Man Says His Name Is I disagree, but it's not really a point worth arguing. Having played both I would argue Darksouls is more hardcore, but both games have their moments and mechanics that could be debated back and forth for hours.

Why Sony passed on publishing Demon's Souls in America

Feb 10th 2012 10:09PM (Joystiq)
And here in lies the problem with publishers in general, and why it's a real pain to make games that are legitimately new and innovative from a developer standpoint. Unless you can point to something else that proves the idea you have already makes money, you can't get the funding for a risky idea. It makes sense, but it's crappy.

That's why Indie development is so awesome. These are the true front line of expanding our format, because they don't give a damn about cloning Call of Duty. They don't care if the game is too hard for the casual player. Everyone else already does that. They want to make something because it's awesome to them, and as an industry we get to point at games like Minecraft, and finally get funding for a project (in theory of course) for a mine craft style game even if we had the idea 4 years ago because it's been proven to make money.

Publishers are crippling the creativity and potential for some really cool games because they themselves do not play games. They want money, lots of it, and they need a spreadsheet and pie chart that tells them you're going to create it for them.

There are outliers of course, but they are fewer and farther between. Games like Dead Space, which were fantastic in my opinion but even that was a substantial risk EA didn't really want to take. They were leary at best.

Keep buying indie games. Keep kickstarter supporting unique ideas, and games will move forward in a way we can all enjoy, and not sit back wondering why someone spent 4 years creating Gears of Resistance Duty using the Unreal Engine.

Electronic Arts stock drops because of SWTOR fumbles

Jan 20th 2012 9:50PM (Massively)
For sure, but unlike when WoW came out when there were no other "real" options for the less hard core, there is now a contention with LOTRO, EVE, Conan, Warhammer, Everquest 2 and a plethora of other Free 2 Play MMO's... and then you have the big dog subscription games WoW, Rift, Aion, etc.

The climb they need to make I think people are going to be expecting very quickly. The biggest problem is not that they are competing with games like WoW and Rift, but the years and years of customer service, tweaking, patching, balancing and retention mechanics already in place for a very long time. That mountain is a very steep climb when you're fresh out the gate and apparently fumbling over your own designs...

Electronic Arts stock drops because of SWTOR fumbles

The game won't be going anywhere, the subscribers might though. Just play what's fun for you. Even Rift is folding servers together at this point, saw something about the recently.

I do have concern for what happens when everyone has completed all the story lines for the 8 classes / races or whataver in SWTOR. Seems excessive to charge a monthly fee for a Massively Multiplayer Mass Effect style game based on WoW instead of... Mass Effect. (mechanics wise people, not IP)

Best Buy thinks Diablo 3 is coming out on February 1, 2012 [updated]

Jan 7th 2012 10:20PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified) Having played the beta, the game is pretty much ready. It wasn't a Beta so much as a gated Demo for the game. I didn't see one bug the whole time I played - Normally I'm skeptical, but having played my professional opinion (as a developer) is that this could be legit. Note the word opinion.

Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Jan 3rd 2012 9:58PM (Joystiq)
@jph89 I couldn't get over all the crack addict ADHD animations that Drake can't seem to stop doing. I've never seen a character do so much when not doing anything! And he's always got to touch everything, I liked Uncharted 2 more, this one felt too overtuned though the story was great.

Beautiful game, but he was so animated I couldn't focus on the environments, noone else found it distracting?

Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Jan 3rd 2012 9:28PM (Joystiq)
@Heisenberg Then why are they there. Also, compared to the other games in the list Deus Ex does not belong... in my personal experience the only friends and coworkers of mine that really enjoyed this game really enjoyed the originals. Those of us that never got to it and lack the nostalgia get lost in the wake and are left wondering what the point was.

How does this a top 10 game make.. I did not enjoy it, deal with it.
