Sep 22nd 2009 11:04AM (Joystiq)Actually it depends on what you will be playing, what your friends will be playing. What exclusives are important to you etc. There are many reasons to pick up a 360 besides the obvious fanboys rants. Whats important and a value to you may not be the case for someone else. If I wanted to play multiplayer games with my buddies then the 360 is the number one choice all the way. If I want to play Splinter Cell, Forza, Halo, Gears, Fable then the 360 is the top choice.
If I need blu-ray, want to play GOW, Uncharted 1/2 Killzone, InFamous, wireless then the PS3 would be the best choice.
I have two PS3 systems in my household and one 360. I got the second PS3 because I needed a blu-ray in my bedroom and also the ability to stream media from my PC. As far as which system I use the most, it really depends on the game.
Platinum Games not developing PS3 version of Bayonetta
Sep 21st 2009 1:52PM (Joystiq)Smaller devs like PG probably have a limit on each. The PS3 if you do not already have experience with it takes time to develop and money. It's reported by many devs already that Sony support, resources, documentation, pretty much everything a developer needs to get a game out in 18 months is very lacking. Any coder out there knows that experience plays a huge part in getting software out in a timely fashion. The more you have to figure out on your own, the longer it takes to finish your work. Not only that, when you hit a snag, that also increases time and thus increase money.
It takes no genius to see that PG doesn't have experience PS3 coders. For them to develop for the PS3 would mean that the game would probably be delayed another year thus increasing the amount of money it takes to make the game and putting their development in jeopardy. Instead they smartly let Sega who has studios who are very experience with the PS3 port to handle the game.
The situation is plan and simple and has nothing to do with developers being lazy. Development studios are companies that need to make profit to support their employees. They need to create the product within a certain time frame so that money continue to flow and people get paid as well as bills. These guys work 60 to 70 hour weeks trying to put out the best product they can and when an OEM decides to create a complex piece of hardware but doesn't provide the proper support for that hardware, they jeopardize small developers like PG because of their arrogance.
It's easy to blame the developer because they are the ones making the game but because most games do not know what the hell they are talking about never understand the details. One very important detail that has come out this Gen is how Sony treats developers and they poor support of their hardware. Sony's arrogance towards developers as if they should be happy to develop on the PS3 instead of Sony being happy that developers wanting to develop for their system. Sony should be bending over backwards to support developers, getting them all the support, resources documentation etc. Instead this is not the case. It has become better but no where near as good as a company like MS where the reason the 360 is easy to code for is not because the hardware is PC tech but instead MS provides all the necessary tools, debuggers, resources, library's documentation to get your project up and running in a short period of time so developers can concentrate on what matters.

Aug 31st 2009 3:32PM (Joystiq)Comments like this shows just how silly gamers are. Lazy is not the right term but I see people love to target the developer instead of the source which is Sony. Time equal money and developers do not have a lot of time playing around with a system to make things work. It has nothing to do with being lazy but instead time. It definitely doesn't help when the system creator doesn't provide decent tools, resource and documentation to help you get the power out of their system.
Hell, they have gone on record stating that they made the system difficult to justify their 10 year game plan.
Do not forget that the 360 is not as simple an architecture as most like to believe. Also the 360 CPU and GPU designs are not that close to PC architecture as most believe as well. The reason the 360 is easy to get up and running is due to MS ability to create a host of tools, documentation resources to help the developer get the most out of the system.
Digital Foundry examines why 360 and PS3 can't take the heat
Aug 31st 2009 2:57PM (Joystiq)I have a launch 360 and I played the hell out of it but I did not experience the RROD until after 1 1/2 years or better(probably closer to 2). I use to ready about issues all the time and think to myself, "Well it's not happening to me so it doesn't exist for my system".
I also have a launch PS3 which I also have not experience any problems but whose to say that it will not do the same thing as my 360. I do know people who have experience problems with their PS3 but that was the same situation as my 360.
What to take from this article is not the knee jerk fanboy reaction that the PS3 cannot have any problems but to understand that this repair shop is seeing an increase in 60GB PS3 systems where the same fix for the 360 is also needed to repair those systems.
