Poll: What Blu-ray player will you be picking up?

Feb 20th 2008 6:51PM (Engadget HD)
Was also going to buy the PS3, just a matter of whether I'd splurge for HD-DVD at some point. Still holding off, though, until the games get a little bit better and I do a TV upgrade.

Two-thirds of Americans think nanotechnology is morally unacceptable -- wait, what?

So ... 2/3rds of Americans are idiots.

Nothing surprising there!

Tackling the mystery of low Wii review scores

Feb 13th 2008 12:03AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Still trying to understand the system? Puhleaze.

Controls and graphics both play a part in review scores. Simple.

The Wii controls are, in general, poor. Is that a hardware failure? A software failure? BOTH? The general fact is: if the same game is released on all systems, the controls on the Wii version tend to suffer. (Despite the initial novelty I experienced, I believe the Wii control scheme ... well, sucks.)

As for graphics, not even a question - the PS3 and 360 blow it away. But I'm sure most reviewers don't count graphics as anywhere near important as controls.

Not to mention some of the titles on the Wii are just plain ... can you say "let's make a buck"?

The review scores are lower. And frankly, they should be.

360 version, come to papa!

As for best car-related (ok, truck) scene - hell, Maximum Overdrive. Take a big truck cab and try to run Emilio Estevez over for 90 minutes. Repeat.

EA bets PS3 will best Xbox 360 sales in 2008

Feb 4th 2008 1:55PM (Engadget)
Go EA! Your predictions make the world ... yawn.

Seriously, why do these idiot companies even bother announcing their silly predictions?

Oh yeah, press. And more press. Even if it's dumb.

Rumor: Resident Evil 4 to blame for no Capcom in Brawl

Feb 4th 2008 1:51PM (Joystiq)
This rumor, if true, is precisely one reason I can't stand Nintendo.

The PS2 version of RE4 came out significantly later than the Gamecube version, and any rabid RE fan would buy a Gamecube to play it - instead of waiting for the PS2 version. I certainly did.

But for Nintendo to deny Capcom characters in Brawl because of the PS2 version of RE4? Please. This is obviously a case where Nintendo is serving its own interest (shocking!) instead of appealing to its fans.

Not that I'd buy Brawl anyway. (yawn)

Lost: Via Domus trailer: um, what?

Sounds to me like some of the actual actors are being used to voice their parts - Jack sounds like Jack. Charlie, not so much.

Doing voice over in a sound booth is a much different skill than acting on camera, so it's not unusual that Jack sounds as robotic as he does; he's probably not comfortable in the sound booth. It really is an acquired skill to read your lines "wild" - that is, with no other actors present.

Graphics are sketchy ... but I still fire up my original Playstation, so it really comes down to gameplay and story. Though for a 360 game, the graphics definitely suck. Fine for a PS2, but not on next-gen.

Brain Training creator refuses millions in royalties

That's just weird, to not accept the $ and at least donate it to some worthwhile causes - other than Nintendo, which makes plenty of moolah on its own.

You sure he's Doctor-smart?

Gates: Xbox will be "most reliable" game system

I would've put quotes around "will be" most reliable game system ...

Bloomberg: Persona 4 dev sticks with PS2

Dec 19th 2007 11:01PM (Joystiq)
Another Persona game? I'm in. Doesn't matter what system it's on, so long as it's coming.

Glad to hear about the anime series, too -- hopefully it retains and expands on the spirit of the games.
