You guys suck at statistics. First of all, the 360's lead in ratio is not surprising. It's a result of a YEAR headstart and less because it has better games, etc.
If you have 10 million consoles sold and you have a game library of 500 games, it's only common sense that you will end up with a higher ratio than if you have 10 million consoles sold and a game library of 50 games. The higher the amount of games available compared to the amount of consoles sold, the higher the attach rate will be.
Now, i'm not saying that the 360 doesn't have good games, because that's simply not true. It has simply the best game library out of all the consoles as of this moment. But the large difference in attach rate is less about the quality of the games (or even that hardcore gamers buy more games) and more because of the greater amount of games available for the xbox360 due to a year headstart.
Basically, xbox360 owners had more time than the other console owners to buy software titles and a greater selection of titles. Hence, the large difference in the attach rate.
If Zelda isn't a killer ap, i don't know what is. I mean, Nintendo has stated it's their best zelda ever. If it's better than OOT, we may potentially have a new greatest game of all time on our hands. Gamerankings.com will have to be updated in such an event.
That just happens to be your environment. I hear other people say how they are excited about the wii and everyone they told are enthusiastic as well. Clearly, not everyone will have the same opinion.
I know you tried not to influence your roommate, but i'm afraid it was too late. Your roommate's first comment already made it apparent that he already had an opinion formed of Nintendo. And that influenced his first impression. He may not be a hardcore gamer, but he sure has preconceptions like one.
1. Whoever states that the wiimote should have been released as an addon to the GC is a MORON. Addons have traditionally never done well compared to stuff included in the box. Which is why dev support for them is limited. If it were released for the GC, we might only see 5-10 games supporting it. With the wii, it´s more like 150-300 games.
2. The wii is NOT a GC. It´s not 1.5 times more powerful than GC. The one who said that only makes himself look ignorant (and a troll), since it´s obvious for everyone where he got that number. It´s 2-3 times more powerful than the GC/xbox. Naturally, the power can´t compare to either xbox360 or the PS3, but like someone stated, it´s not necesary.
3. The wii is indeed more expensive than i anticipated, but keep in mind we get wii sports as a pack-in. ´Nuff said.
"Well, according to the recent survey Joystiq posted about on here a few articles down, 7 out of 11 people in this line are waiting to get into the Sony booth. So I would be safe to say that Sony kicked the Wii E3 lines arse."
Like other people said, it's comparing apples and oranges.
First of all, E3 was not open to the public, like TGS. Second, Nintendo was non existant at TGS. So, using the 7 out of 11 number is pretty meaningless by itself.
Kotaku also asked a number of people if they were going for the wii or the PS3 at TGS. The results were pretty surprising. I believe it was 12 for PS3 and 8 for the wii. That Nintendo managed 8 votes when they were non existant at TGS is pretty amazing if you ask me.
Even if this is potentially bad for Blu-Ray, this is a step Sony MUST undertake. Sony is banking their entire existence on the PS3. If the PS3 fails....well, let's just say heads will roll. Lots of them.
There is still a learning curve, granted. But people are more willing to learn the moves and gestures rather than memorizing the buttons. People glance at an fps or sports games and they get immediately disinterested when they notice how many buttons need to be memorized. But when they realize that the action can be performed by actually DOING it instead of memorizing buttons, well.....that changes a few things. Even if there's a learning curve, suddenly people are more willing to try it out, because doing the action yourself is easier than memorizing buttons.
360 leads hardware to software ratio, Wii and PS3 trail with similar ratios
