I'm not blaming the dev team, or the release schedule. If SOE is good for anything, it's pumping out content the fastest, (though not always finished), to get more money from subscribers. Although sometimes lacking in quality, SOE has pushed out content at a rate that pust every other publisher to shame. I digress, though--
My issue is with the overall, top-down management from Smedley. It's his pathetic handling of SOE's MMO arm that has resulted in the sad state of SOE. Wile it still looks like they are "successful," with all the opportunities that they had at their fingertips, SOE should have become a giant at least twice the size of Acti-Blizzard.
Just another example of why SOE fails as an MMO provider. If they had any competence whatsoever, they would be the #1 MMO company.
How can you fail so hard when you possess the game that brought MMO's into the public consciousness (EQ), it's superior successor (EQII), the first ever FPS MMO (Planetside), and one of the most successful intellectual properties in the history of everything (Star Wars Galaxies).
**TWO** gloved knife hands? Astounding lack of attention to detail.
(Unless he has two in the Jackie Earle Haley version. I wouldn't know, because I refuse to watch it. Even though I really like J.E.H., when it comes to mixing corny black comedy with horror, no one could top Robert Englund in the role).
I just hope that the song used in the trailer was used ironically. The song "Partytime" by 45 Grave is from Return of the Living Dead, which contains an entirely different zombie mythos than Romero Zombies.
Both series are great, but I'd almost take that as a slap in Romero's face, by using a song from a competitor in a game where his likeness is used.
While I'm a WoW fan, WoW's music pales in comparison to EQ2. The music is so inspired. After playing for 5 minutes on the old tutorial island, I was hooked on the game's music. The main thing that EQ2's music does better than WoW's is how emotive the music feels. The combat and dungeon music is standard fare, but most of the overland zone music just made the game come alive. Also, in the more aesthetically pleasing zones, the music just made you happy to be playing the game. I've never felt that in WoW.
If I had to sum it up, I'd say that WoW's music feels like "game music," while EQ2's music feels like orchestral music that just happens to be in a game.
(EQ2's sound format is also very nice --all you need to do is copy the music folder, slap on a title and album artwork with MediaMonkey, and you have the entire game soundtrack!)
The list of games that you can earn currency for is a joke. I now think less of Massively.com for associating themselves with such sham marketing. This pox among gamers even tries to gain access to your Facebook info as well as install a toolbar.
12 hour epic camp of "The Weaver" at RoV in EQ2. Captain T'Sanne in Nek Forest is a close second, back when they had the bug that would make the mob unfightable until server restart if someone /yelled and ran away.
