I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I appreciate the technical skill and songwriting of metal bands like Megadeth, Opeth, Nile, and a whole slew of others, but it doesn't always have to be about that. But there's still something about certain punk bands like Screeching Weasel, Bad Religion, and Green Day's older stuff that's pretty damn enjoyable for all of its raw, no-frills brilliance.

I agree, Rust In Peace is just awesome and my favorite Megadeth album. You shouldn't discount punk completely, however. A lot of early thrash metal acts (Megadeth included) carry heavy influence from bands like the Ramones, Misfits, and the Germs.

I still have a lot of nostalgia for Green Day from my youth. And I mean that literally: "Dookie" was the first album - on cassette, mind you - that I ever bought with my hard-earned allowance money. I was 12. But as much as I love "Dookie" and "Insomniac," I just couldn't get into any Green Day albums that were released after that. Some DLC from their Lookout Records days and Pinhead Gunpowder (Billie Joe's other band) would sweeten the deal enough to warrant a purchase...

Seeing the Lost Labyrinth Zone footage in the above comment actually renewed my interest in this. Very nice emphasis on (gasp) actual platforming! Dude keeps losing rings because he's trying to play it like Sonic Rush or something.
