WD TV Live HD gets 'Play To' functionality, full Windows 7 compliance

@Ned Scott
But what if I'm outside on my patio and I'm feeling a change of pace at the moment. I guess I could walk back inside the house to change the track, buy an RF Remote for a couple of hundred dollars or I could just use my laptop or ultramobile PC to change it from my seat outside by the pool.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best new demo material for my home theater?

The first 5-10 minutes of Disney's Cars is amazing. The roar of the engines, the music and the car pile up make it amazing. Also Quantom of Solace's opening chase scene.

Ask Engadget HD: Should I switch to Windows Media Center?

Jun 30th 2010 3:20PM (Engadget HD)
For those of you saying Windows 7 is too unreliable you should stop trying to make the system do so many tasks. With my setup I have only two additional pieces of software installed on my system. My TV Logos for the TV Guide and Matroska Splitter to play my MKVs. With my setup I have locked my HTPC into doing one thing: Using Media Center ONLY. I have almost no hiccups, can't say never because very rarely Windows will find some reason to require a restart and that's it. I watch TV, playback Blurays, use two Xbox Extenders and have no problems.

Ask Engadget HD: Should I switch to Windows Media Center?

You can have bits and pieces of everything you want but Media Center isn't going to do all of these things right on its own. It supports the H.264 but it won't unpack MKVs. (TS and VOB are good to go) CC will be hit and miss on different file formats. Dolby Digital and DTS are good too but the HD variants will require Power DVD or similar Bluray software to push it to the receiver. Xbox 360 Extenders will get you your shows around the house but not PCs unless it's locally recorded on that PC. Recording to a server is fine. You can manually change cover art for movies by inserting a jpeg titled "folder", but that will take forever with your library. The My Movies software can be used to get metadata and cover art automatically and you can use the My Movies software in Media Center if you want or just use the native Movies that is part of Media Center.

Now I have to try and find something for the wife to do all over again just so I can have some time to play!?! This sucks! But it’s so good too!
