Joyswag: PS3 Holiday Games Bundle

In Joystiq terms, nice. I've visited you guys pretty much every day this year. In work terms now... that's probably naughty.

Volkswagen Passat CC R-Line now on sale - in Europe

"family sedan" is what I'm trying to justify here.

While I love my '06 Jetta 2.0T, I'm trading up in July and am debating between the CC and the newly-roomier '09/10 Mazda 6 for about the same price.

Both have sufficicent trunk space (albeit, I love that VW trunk hook...) to qualify for family luggage. While nothing beats the styling and feel of the CC in this market, I'm having a tough time justifying the four seater when I now have a child seat to take into account. In the end, the responsible side of me says the Mazda should win out despite all the other voices yelling CC. :)

Compensation for last week's extended downtime

I would assume/hope so as otherwise it seems they'd be an easy avenue to abuse their leninacy of 50 characters.

I know logged into the Cairne character within the past few weeks in order to get the Whelping 5th anniversary pet but didn't actually play beyond that. I do have another low level on Wyrmrest Accord that I haven't touched in months. Either way, I'm curious to see what they do.

Compensation for last week's extended downtime

I don't see a credit yet; however, I wonder if there's any distinction made by Blizzard on the amount of time a person plays on a server in order to qualify for the credit (meaning credits in general, not necessarily limited to this one).

For instance, I regularly play on Eitrigg (not on the list) with my main and slew of alts; however, when Cairne (which is on the list) opened up, I created a mirror toon on the server to reserve my name as I was one-day planning to start an opposing faction character.

Now, I don't really think I need a credit as the toon is sub-20 and I haven't opened that toon for some time... but if I do get a credit, would it behoove the cheapskate in me to create single alts across various battlegroups to capitalize on what will surely be future outages?

My preferred gaming attire would be that nice plush robe and slippers while listening to COD on a nice sound system... now just to win it.

+1 to you Dirty for the aggro crag reference! Now to blend in an Olmec/Legends of the Hidden Temple reference in here somewhere.

Blizzcon 2009: Official Cataclysm FAQ

Aug 21st 2009 4:42PM (WoW)
Mixed feelings indeed :) With all this new phasing technology, I was thinking they might use it for classic Azeroth still (particularly due to those zones changing so drastically) ... maybe even some sort of passage to it via some Caverns of Time relation. Then again, I suppose five years worth of questing classic Azeroth is more than enough...

A couple of other points:

-- I would assume a "FAQ" would at least post the obligatory "we won't speculate on a release window", "whenver it's ready", "soon", etc statement....

-- Based on that trailer, it looks like people may finally start going to Desolace as it looked like it's not going to be so desolate anymore... unless I'm misjuding the before-environment.

Joystiq remembers the Sega Genesis

@Chris Grant

You know, if you still have the Miracle Piano, it's something of a collector's item :) First time I've ever seen anyone reference it other than myself -- I had the PC edition which eventually broke down. Although now that we recently had a daughter, I'd love to see them make it again and bring it up to date. Then again, hopefully it won't carry the same $500ish pricetag it carried before.

Breakfast Topic: Do you wish we didn't have to use AddOns?

Jul 7th 2009 11:08AM (WoW)
Axolotl: You're certainly not alone -- Not everyone uses add-ons and I've always been one to stay away (well... with the exception of Peggle :)

Many of these add-ons I view similar to those guide books that GameStop is always pushing on you... Sure they may tell you exactly what you need to do, but I simply do not *want* to know. The joy (for me) is in the discovery -- that's why I've paid my $15/month since the original launch.

As for the healing and other DPS mods that might make you appear more skilled, 'auto-mode' (as someone refers to it further down) isn't my cup of tea. I enjoy playing my characters as intended instead of relying on meters/macros/mods -- for me, I'm losing value from my subscription by letting something else do the work for me.

Along the same lines, I tend to seek out first-timers when starting new dungeons and raids as again, the joy (for me) is in the discovery. I would much rather wipe time and time again with the eventual victory (or at least knowledge of what not to do next time) versus run to someone who can simply tell me how it's been done before.
