I felt that the most awesome scene was when the messenger comes to Sparta early in the movie, riding a huge horse and carrying the skulls of former kings with their crowns still on. The actual moment that contained 300% awesomeness was when the messenger's horse reared up on its hind legs (in well placed slow mo) as Leonidas and his queen stand, fearless, just in front of the beast like statues unimpressed by the display. The best and still the iconographic scene that comes to mind every time I think of the movie.
