Nearly every app in Palm's webOS catalog is 50 percent off

Jun 19th 2010 10:43PM (Engadget)
@BrookLynnsFinest

2575 apps in the official Catalog, including ~10 EA titles, ~10 Glu Mobile titles, ~30 Gameloft titles.

Honestly, gaming on it is probably still better than Android at this point, despite the smaller number of overall apps.

More importantly, the developers are still getting the full 100% of the price for each sale.

New Xbox 360 shows up in the wild, gets unboxed, torn asunder and modded

Jun 17th 2010 8:29PM (Engadget)
@MRCUR Regardless of whether the console gets hot enough, the X-clamp stresses the board unevenly. It may not cause an issue if there's not too much heat, but it's still a flawed design that would have cost pennies to change.

Seriously? How is it that nobody has mentioned that it STILL USES X-CLAMPS?

Considering the crappy X-clamp mounting design for the heatsink is a large part of the factors causing the RROD, I'm shocked they wouldn't just change it to be safe.

I mean, yes, the console running cooler should help a great deal, but how many more pennies could it possibly have cost to use a decent mounting solution?

Boxee Box delayed until November

Jun 11th 2010 7:23PM (Engadget)
I should point out that I can obviously read that Boxee is claiming software-related issues as reasons for the delay, but I just don't believe them. They say it's software-related, and that it will still use the Tegra 2, but the fact that they're using the Tegra 2 as planned doesn't necessarily imply that the issues are software-related.

I would guess more that it has to do with Tegra 2 than anything else. I've always thought that anything sooner than Q4 for release of that was a little too optimistic, when ARM's prediction all along has been that A9-based systems would go into mass production in Q4.

The other announced Tegra 2 based product won't be shipping till around then either.

Sony's NEX-3, NEX-5 interchangeable lens cameras get reviewed

Jun 8th 2010 12:27AM (Engadget)
@jhoff80 Oh, and as for image quality, despite the larger sensor, in my opinion based on the DPR comparison photos, up to and including ISO1600, the E-PL1 is better (more detail).

Don't forget much, much larger lenses, and an interface that makes even the 'dumbed-down' E-PL1 iAuto mode look smart.

HP CEO: "We didn't buy Palm to be in the smartphone business"

Er, that should be "though maybe this is wishful thinking."

HP CEO: "We didn't buy Palm to be in the smartphone business"

See, to me, it just seems like he misspoke, though this is wishful thinking.

I would bet that he means "We didn't buy Palm JUST to be in the smartphone business."

Look at what he's saying after it: "Now imagine that being a web-connected environment where now you can get a common look and feel and a common set of services laid against that environment."

If he's doesn't mean that one of those devices in a 'web-connected environment' where you'd want a common look and feel is a smartphone, I'd be very surprised.

Again, I love my Pre, so I might be biased, but I pretty clearly see this as just being a reiteration of previous statements. webOS is what they were after in the first place, not only because of smartphones but because they want to put it on everything. That doesn't necessarily mean that at least one of those products won't be a smartphone though.
