Anyway, this development was surprising yet expected at the same time. I mean John Carmack was smart here joining forces with yet another business all the while maintaining control over actual development of the games that the new id will crank out. This would also mean that the id Tech 4 engine will still be on its way to being open-sourced and the id logo will still be stamped on the boxes of their products (alongside ZeniMax's logo for publishing). To me, I don't see anything changing... just more money being added to the equation. That's all.
