Metal Gear Solid 4 intro video sneaks out

May 13th 2008 12:38PM (Joystiq)
I agree that the over-the-top cheese is a hallmark of the MGS series, but damn that was bad. Now, that "theatrical" trailer was fucking amazing. I am buying a PS3 for this game and that trailer really drove it home.

That was not good. What is with the writing? And the voice? Trying way too hard to be grizzled.

Did he mention control?

Darth Vader actually wears pantyhose under his suit during the day to reduce chafing. He learned it while serving in the Coroscant Light Infantry where long road marches would chafe like poop on a baby's butt.

Call of Duty 4 dubbed game of the year at Interactive Achievement Awards

Feb 8th 2008 10:27AM (Joystiq)
Halo is far from garbage. The millions of copies that it has sold and the solid reviews that it got say otherwise. It is not game of the year material, but it is a solid game and a solid franchise.

That being said, Call of Duty 4 is hands down the better game across the board.

Devil May Cry 4 PS3 'accomplishments' may hint at Home integration

Feb 5th 2008 11:27AM (Joystiq)
Gamerscore and achievements are some of the best aspects of the 360 for me. I have done so much "out of the box" playing that has really given my games more life and enjoyment. The Call of Duty series (well 2 and 4 anyway....3 was poop) is a perfect example. I would have never played and beaten the game on Veteran had it not been for the achievement system and beating CoD4 on veteran is one of my gaming highlights and I am very proud to have done it.

That being said, I could give a rats ass about Home and "accomplishments". If anyone sees this other than a thinly veiled in game advertising venue and IM client then they have another thing coming. I would rather play games then buy new pants for my little guy from the Gap store that I unlocked by beating Metal Gear Solid. I have a wife and kids and friends and a career. When I have 2 hours to sit down and game I want to to just that. Sony, give me games, not Second Life.

Thank god I have my 360 with stacks of awesome games to keep me busy.

Producer: Metal Gear Solid 4 must sell a million copies day one

Nov 29th 2007 2:27PM (Joystiq)
There is not a chance in hell that this game is going to sell a million copies day one. I would be surprised if it sells a million copies in a week.

Literally, 30% of ALL PS3 owners would have to buy this day one and their simply aren't enough early adopters for a game like this to meet those lofty goals.

I think Konami saw what happened with Halo 3 launch and assumes that will happen for them as well. It won't....Halo 3 has a multiplayer community that rivals even World of Warcraft for dedication. Yes, MGS has multiplayer and yet it is a separate game altogether. I am not saying Halo 3 is the end all be all of games, but they have a fanbase that every developer wants.

Even if you went cross platform and did a worldwide simutanious release I doubt you would sell a million copies in one day. MGS is great, but it is not rush out at midnight great.

Can rap find a place in music games?

Nov 28th 2007 11:10AM (Joystiq)
If they made "Hip Hop Hero" or "Rap Homies", I sure would be crying that a hip hop cover of War Pigs from Sabbath wasn't included. Rap is not conducive to this type of game. I mean I guess you could bundle 3 mics (1 for the rapper and 2 for the other nameless guys to say every 5th word or to go "uh" "yeah"), a turntable controller for scratching and a beat machine with two pads for bass and high hat.

Wait, maybe I am on to something. TRADEMARKED!

Investors 'getting carried away' by BioShock buzz says analyst

Aug 23rd 2007 11:23AM (Joystiq)
Analysts who spout this crap are what makes innovation and truly unique games "too risky" for publishers to make. Shareholders are the real decision makers sadly and I wish these so called analysts would shut up and let innovation and quality games outshine the competition. Bioshock is a great game and Take-Two deserves all the stock jump they can get for making a stellar, M-rated quality game. Other developers should take note and try to even reach the shadow of Bioshock. EA, I am looking at you.

The best fight scene is without question the scene in the first battle where Leonidas charges forward in a one man ballet of destruction. The slow downs at the impact moments only enhance that beautiful scene.
