@8bitartist It does support the regular controller. BigBadBob113 probably just assumed it wouldn't because it's a Wii port. The same applies to No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise, by the way (that is, it does let you play with the Dualshock, you don't need Move). Just look at the cover, it says Move 'Compatible', not 'Required'.
@MyAbsolution Have you actually tried to activate Mortal Kombat? I know I wondered the same thing, I have two games here with online passes still to be activated, but I've read somewhere in the PS blog that the first phase of restoration would bring online gaming back, "including those games with online verification". I would take that to mean online passes would be activated outside the Store now. But since PSN isn't back yet in my region, I don't rightly know.
About new releases: they usually require the latest system versions. SMG2 and Endless Ocean 2 already require 4.2, for example. I bet the new Metroid also does, and the new Zelda most definitely will require firmware 4.3.
The last update for the PS3 removed the Install Other OS feature - that maybe, MAYBE will be used in the FUTURE (meaning, no one's using it now) for pirating. Not only people complained, but some SUED Sony because of this.
I wouldn't say they're right, but people certainly do bemoan this kind of thing in other consoles too.
It did. In fact, the homebrew software they targeted was updated to the new Wii system menu in less than a week, while lots of people with unmodified Wiis got it bricked. That happened because the new system version updated the console's main boot file; if something happened during the update, such as a power failure, that file would get corrupted and the system wouldn't initialize anymore.
Pretty much like what happens with DRM software, this update did more damage to the legitimate consumers than to the pirated consoles. :P
You can play online all you want, it doesn't check which system version you have (and many games, such as those from EA and Capcom, use their own servers for online play instead of Nintendo's).
What you DO need to be aware is that the WiiConnect24 option does download updates automatically, even if you're not playing online at all. Disable that and you can stay online as much as you want.

A place where gaming isn't dominated by stupid young adults who believe the kind of games they play are an indication of their supposed maturity.
It must be a terrifying world to them, this one... Since they have no other way to convince themselves, much less the rest of the world, that they are indeed mature in any way besides grunting in front of a gorefest in pixels-and-bits form, which makes them feel better for a little while.
...
Mario & Sonic At the Olympic Games certainly isn't the best game out there, but there's no reason it can't sell this much. In fact, it should've sold double or triple that, as many Mario and Sonic games have done in the past. It probably didn't happen because it isn't that good.
