Ehh, I wouldn't call Steam a "game engine." It's a digital distribution platform and multiplayer gaming platform.

Computer World: Apple is "taking over the game market"

Nov 7th 2010 4:44AM (TUAW.com)
Consoles will hardly be replaced in the near future. You can't do multiplayer gaming with things like OnLive at a reasonable pace, and not everyone wants to play (or develop) casual titles. Imagine playing a game like StarCraft where milliseconds matter. Going through multiple servers (your computer to OnLive or some offsite server to Battle.net and then all the way back to you) would be a horrible mess.

And with games being more expensive products as well as more frequently used products (in that you usually watch a movie once and you play a game for several hours, if not more), people, especially gamers, won't take kindly to the fact that they may not be able to actually own their games and play whenever they want. OnLive should never used as an example for success when it hasn't proven to be a commercial success.

Zune HD hacked, OpenZDK now available to developers

@NYYstateofmind Because it's hardly breaking news. It's not industry-changing, a highly anticipated product announcement, or even industry-related. The iPhone OS 4 dev jailbreak wasn't breaking news, and this isn't either.

Windows Phone 7 Series: everything you ever wanted to know

@Newwales Considering how the iPhone probably outsells webOS, Android, and WinMo devices combined and features no home screen technology, I don't think it matters all that much to most consumers. There's a greater number of consumers they can take than they might lose.
