Jan 3rd 2009 6:20AM (Engadget)If these articulating screens are so important for camcorders, why are they not important for still cameras????? Not having these screens is the only reason I don't already own a Canon or Nikon digital SLR ... although I'm very happy with my Canon S5 IS with it's articulating screen.

Sep 20th 2008 10:05AM (Engadget)Why do all camcorder come with an articulating LCD and yet they are very rare on still cameras? These displays have the same advantages with cameras as with camcorders. In fact, I'd bet that camcorder buyers would be very upset if camcorders started coming out without an articulating display. I would have purchased a Canon DSLR ... or Nikon DSLR ... a long time ago if it had one of these ever-so-useful articulating displays.
Besides being able to very easily and accurately shoot low ground shots, high over-the-crowd shots and self portraits, I especially like that I can lock the screen-side of the display inward for full protection when carrying the camera slung over my shoulder, or in my pocket .... with full protection of the screen from bangs, scratches or breakage. Also, the addition of an articulating display adds very little cost, weight or size to the overall camera. This is such a no-brainer.

It could be displayed on a plasma that can display 1080p.

Aug 5th 2008 7:02AM (Engadget)First it was radio that was going to destroy the movie industry ... then it was TV ... and then the VCR. Now both the movie and TV companies are screaming that the DVR is going to take all their profits away. What they fail to learn from history is that radio, TV & VCR actually made them more money ... a lot more!! And so will DVR if they'll just wake up and embrace the future.
Yes, the old paradigm of TV commercials is quickly dying, so they'll just have to figure out a new one. There's no way they're going to stop this, so instead they should hop on board and help create the new paradigm instead of trying to hold back a tsunami.
How is it that these guys get paid such big bucks and yet are so blind to the future?
