Counterfeiter ordered to pay Nintendo 2.5 million
Jul 6th 2007 10:57AM (Joystiq)Of course Nintendo does have the right to claim what's rightfully theirs, but that the case had been granted pardon beforehand comes as no surprise, specially if you live down here.
Situation is just like the neighbour from message 23 puts it. For example, we have an official Microsoft representative but they don't work with Xbox. :/
Off-the-shelves prices? Go ahead if you feel like crying: http://www.gamestop.com.uy/
Last time I checked , they asked 1000 dolars for a PS3... for the 20GB version... Damn, I mean, I earn that much in about 4 months and of course I can't save it all up, rather, I just manage to get by.
If that price tag is considered a rip off by your standards, imagine how we feel down here were it's like that with every decent (read: legal) store.
People usually bring their systems from abroad or buy them off at the greymarket. Luckly, DVDs don't pay those 160% import taxes, still it's 60 bucks plus shipping (considering someone actually ships it down here). Add this, add that, you could end paying over 80 for just one game...
I know videogaming is a privilege, but I like to say it's gamer's hell down here. Look at the prices and you might understand why piracy is such a common practice.

May 17th 2006 2:37PM (Joystiq)Microsoft responds to Xbox 360 hack news
Mar 23rd 2006 9:03AM (Joystiq)And I know I'm going off-topic, but I thought I would clear up a little bit about #4's comment: I live even deeper down in Southamerica. Here, piracy is not an option, it's pretty much of a 'must': I'm making about $160 per month and it's quite a decent salary here. And before you start making numbers, add into that abusive prices: haven't seen one yet, but heard of 360s tagged with over $1000 at stores. PS2s and Xbox go for around $300, but that's on the grey market... Welcome to the gamer's hell... >:D
...and food is definietly A LOT cheaper down here. :)
