The real PlayStation 3 controller revealed

Jul 9th 2006 3:18PM (Joystiq)
I say support nintendo for innovation!..they're doing it right by always trying to bring something new to the market..if nintendo had better graphics and a larger selection of games they would rule without a doubt, but i respect them for walking their own path. Sony, your outdatet controller is ruining your console. Get rid of the tilt shit or make it better, and redesign the controller at least a bit, i dont want to be playing my new ps3 with a controller design i played with 5 years ago on my ps1. Why the hell did you listen to your own hardcore fans who said: "why fix something that ain't broken". You should be listening to other players and try to win them over as well as keeping the hardcore fans happy. Shouldn't be hard to do at all. Considering GCN had a better controller, xbox had a better controller, and 360 has a better controller, not to mention wii who's controller system is better than any other gamepad ever exited. And to quote rfruit:

"Sony's pitch and yaw controller is meerly an attempt to steal some of Nintendo's thnder, but it will in no way approach what the Wii is attempting."

Correct! So sony, get you'r shit together and launch another controller. I'll gladly take the boomerang with rumble AND perhaps tilt that coul'd be turned on/of in separate sections of a game, or even just the boomerang as you orginally intended it. Anything but the outdatet, good for nothing, dual shock design. Sure, it was fine 10 years ago. Now give me something new that my hands will like. And while you'r at it, give us a redesign of the eyetoy, something like that of which a 3rd party launched for xbox 360 at E3, only that you, and this is the critical part, make it BETTER. I want something worthy of the ps3 hardware.

BTW: I will buy the Wii console to support nintendo, i just hope they can come up with some new exiting games as well.

And also, about xboxlive; please, consept was almost already there, and would have been developed further anyway. So basically 360 is the console you DONT want to spend money on, exept for halo 3 offcourse:) Which better be launched on pc! Within 3 years!

Joystiq readers redesign the PS3 controller

Look, charlies design is good, but its nintendo's...and another thing is that the NGC controller is far more comfortable than sony's, because its got really smooth edges that follows the hand extremely well...so i think that charlies design is only half-way there, nothing spectacular, even if it was just a tweak. When it comes to the ball, well, it looks nice, allthough I say as a lot of other people here, it's hardly worth manufacturing, cause I don't think it'll lie steady in the hand, it might just roll around when your trying to reach the buttons in intense gameplay...unless you made some changes like putting a hole in the back fitted to your fingers, and perhaps made it in a special material, and while you'r at it, didnt make a ball at all. I have to say I like the idea though, and with some convincing i might just have gone along with it. The lego consept is funny, but not realistic. I'm having a hard time beliving it would be anywhere near comfortable because of the edges...perhaps if you toned it down a bit, consisting of a few parts that you could reasemble for like 3 different gameplay types..Einhanderkiller's design reminds me of the shape of an old third-party supernintendo controller, and looks less comfortable than it probably is. Still, I think id rather go for the banana with the d-pad and joystick switched places. All in all I i'd rather go with a nearly perfect copy of the NGC controller, or perhaps sony could come up with something based on the ideas of the new revolution pad...using motion control, wouldn't be the first time they stole some ideas...Still, really looking forward to the release of the PS3 though, even if it is quite late...And by the way, it's really easy critisising other peoople's ideas, im not saying I could do so much better though. Nothing personal.
